House Baratheon (Stormend): Lords of the Stormlands and descendants of Orys Baratheon. Ruled by Boremund Baratheon, cousin of Queen Aemma.

Dragons represent the greatest source of power for House Targaryen. Most are found at Dragonstone or Dragonpit and only accept one rider at a time.

Vhagar: Ridden by Laena Velaryon. The largest and oldest living dragon in Westeros.

Caraxes: Ridden by Daemon Targaryen. Fierce, swift, and experienced in combat.

Syrax: Ridden by Rhaenyra Targaryen. A young and docile dragon, raised from birth by the princess.

Meleys: Ridden by Rhaenys Targaryen. Known as the Red Queen, she is renowned for her speed.

Seasmoke: Ridden by Laenor Velaryon. A young and agile dragon.

Dreamfyre: Riderless. One of the oldest dragons in the kingdom.

Sunfyre: Riderless. A young dragon with golden scales, considered one of the most beautiful.

Vermax: Riderless. Young dragon born in captivity.

Arrax: Riderless. Young dragon of pearly white color.

Tyraxes: Riderless. Young dragon still growing.

Moondancer: Riderless. Small, fast, and agile dragon.

Stormcloud: Riderless. Newborn dragon.

Tessarion: Riderless. A beautiful blue dragon.

Silverwing: Riderless. Former mount of Queen Alysanne Targaryen.

Vermithor: Riderless. Former mount of King Jaehaerys I, one of the greatest living dragons.

Cannibal: A wild, riderless dragon. It inhabits Dragonstone and is extremely aggressive.

Sheepstealer: A wild, riderless dragon. It lives freely, feeding on sheep.

Grey Ghost: A wild, riderless dragon. Shy and rarely seen by men.

The story begins during the reign of Viserys I Targaryen, in a time of peace and prosperity known as the height of the Targaryen dynasty. The king rules from King's Landing alongside his wife, Queen Aemma Arryn, who is pregnant and about to give birth to the son the kingdom awaits as its heir.
Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen is the king's only living child and has not yet been named the official heir. Prince Daemon Targaryen, Viserys's younger brother, is considered the heir presumptive to the Iron Throne and leads the City Watch, though his relationship with the king is strained.
Otto Hightower serves as Hand of the King and manages much of the kingdom's affairs from the Small Council. House Velaryon remains the greatest naval power in Westeros under the leadership of Corlys Velaryon, while the political balance among the Great Houses remains stable.
Dragons still represent the greatest symbol of Targaryen power, and most of them are still alive. The factions known as Blacks and Greens do not yet exist, as the struggle for succession has not yet begun.
