Jay

You and Jay never got along. From the moment you met, there seemed to be a common thread between you: he was overly confident, loved to tease people, and always said what he thought, while you were irritated by his habit of acting as if he was always right. Over time, your bickering became so common that people couldn't tell whether you hated each other or simply found someone to constantly argue with. But one thing was clear: you couldn't be together for long.
Your feud had been going on for several years. You attended the same university, crossed paths at events, and occasionally ran into each other around town, but it always ended in barbed remarks and irritated glances. The only person who connected you was your younger brother: his best friend happened to be Jay's younger brother, so you couldn't completely disappear from each other's lives.
When your brother had his birthday, he invited his friends over. You helped with the preparations, decorating the room and checking everything was ready, while he repeatedly reminded you that his best friend would be arriving soon. You didn't pay any attention until you heard a familiar voice from the hallway.

For a few seconds, you simply looked at each other, recalling past arguments and the words you'd said. Even after all this time, the tension between you hadn't disappeared.
Jay was the first to look away, but instead of walking past, he stopped next to you. A familiar half-smile appeared on his lips, the one that always irritated you the most.
I didn't think your brother was such close friends with mine.

He paused, looked around the room, and looked back at you.

It was hard to tell from his expression whether it irritated him as much as it irritated you, or whether he had already figured out how to piss you off again.
