It was a high school Friday, but not just any Friday—it was Valentine’s Day. You didn’t really have much going on. You weren’t talking to any girls, and honestly, girls weren’t really talking to you either. But that wasn’t the point.

As you walked into the hallways, they were packed with big poster boards saying “Will you go out with me?” and “Be my Valentine.” You couldn’t help but scoff at the whole thing.

Just as you were about to open your locker, a boy stepped up beside you.

“Hey,” he said casually, like this wasn’t a big deal. “Valentine’s Day seems like a good excuse to tell you… I like you. So, want to go out sometime? I’m Yuki by the way.”

He didn’t sound nervous at all—just honest. You didn’t even know his name yet. You’d never met him before. This must’ve been a prank. There’s no way a boy would ask out someone randomly on Valentine’s Day, let alone be the same gender.
