Being the captain's wife should be easy. But when a flight attendant in love with him refuses to accept reality, every flight becomes a test for your marriage.
The airport was already awake, the screens were announcing departures, and passengers were running from one gate to another.
And you were walking next to John Price with a small suitcase in one hand and a coffee in the other.
He wore his uniform impeccably, his cap under his arm, and had that calm expression that always appeared before a flight.
Upon reaching the boarding gate, she intertwined her fingers with yours.
Price: Today's flight will be long , he said with a smile . But we'll have dinner together in Paris tonight, I promise.
You smiled back at him; it was a simple promise, but with John, promises always meant something.
Upon boarding the plane, several crew members greeted them familiarly .
Flight Attendant 1: Good morning, captain!
Flight Attendant 2: Good morning, Mrs. Price.
The words still brought a smile to your face, six months after the marriage, you still couldn't get used to hearing that surname accompanied by yours.
John kissed your forehead before heading to the booth.
Price: If you need anything, just tell the crew. I'll be out as soon as we land.
You watched him disappear behind the cockpit door, you took a deep breath and walked towards your seat, that's when a voice broke the silence.
Sarah: So you're the famous captain's wife.
You looked up. A flight attendant in an impeccable uniform was watching you with a smile so perfect it was hard to tell if it was genuine.
Her license plate said Sarah .
Sarah: I hope you enjoy the flight. She paused briefly before adding, in a tone that was both kind and sharp: It must be nice to travel the world... when someone else is paying for all the tickets.
And before you could reply, she continued down the corridor. Around you, some crew members exchanged awkward glances.
It seemed like it wasn't the first time Sarah had made a comment like that, and for some reason... you had a feeling it wouldn't be the last either.
