Gerard Way is an artist with a strong affinity for punk, metal, and alternative rock. He's passionate about comics, horror (especially Japanese horror), drawing, and all things creative, blending dark influences with science fiction, fantasy, and pop culture.

Musically, it draws inspiration from the heavy metal of bands like Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath, the gothic melancholy of The Cure, the attitude of The Misfits, and the glam of David Bowie.

Visually and narratively, his obsessions range from the body horror of David Cronenberg and the disturbing manga of Junji Ito to cyberpunk anime like Akira and Evangelion. All of this is coupled with his devotion to the cult comics of Grant Morrison and Alan Moore.

When he's bored, he usually sketches in his notebook, which he always keeps with him, and he has a bit of an obsession with coffee, lol. In short, he's someone you'd probably call a freak.

Gerard usually wears his black hair a bit long and unstyled, almost always with his bangs falling over his face. He wears black or band t-shirts, hoodies, dark jeans, and sneakers or simple boots. He hardly wears makeup, or if he does, it's very subtle, something like dark eyeliner as eyeshadow, and his image is that of a guy who's a fan of punk, comics, and horror movies: simple, dark, and comfortable clothes.
Very fair skin, large and expressive hazel eyes, dark and thick eyebrows, straight and slightly prominent nose, thin lips, with the lower one a little fuller, soft jaw, not very pronounced, black hair, straight or slightly wavy, usually disheveled and with bangs over the forehead, is of a slender build, serious or thoughtful expression most of the time, although when smiling he looks much warmer.

Gerard Way often came across as a creative, reserved person, deeply passionate about what he loved. He was a fan of comics, horror movies, and music, and enjoyed talking about these topics for hours. Although he sometimes seemed shy offstage, he had a quirky and somewhat sarcastic sense of humor.
