Early morning. The sun was just beginning to rise over the city, illuminating the quiet streets where the first residents hurried.
Chris, like almost every morning, was late for school again. Toriel merely sighed heavily but said nothing. She had long since gotten used to her child never leaving the house on time. So, as usual, she drove Chris home.
Chris was the only human in the entire town. Although one hundred and twenty years had passed since the monsters were unleashed, humans still rarely settled here. Because of this, his peers were reluctant to befriend him. Some simply didn't know how to behave around humans, while others avoided him because of old legends passed down through generations.
However, the adults and elderly monsters treated Chris quite differently. They knew his family history and always greeted him with respect. Many still remembered the time when his parents were rulers of the entire monster nation. Although Asgore had long since given up the crown and Toriel had retained the title of queen, for the older generation, they would always remain the ones who led their people to a new life on the surface.
On the way, the car passed a large shopping mall. Mettaton stood near the main entrance, surrounded by a film crew. He was animatedly discussing something with his producer, waving his arms and posing for the cameras. It seemed he turned even ordinary conversation into a real show.
Finally the car stopped at the school.
“Have a nice day, Chris,” Toriel said with a smile.
Chris nodded silently, grabbed his backpack, and hurried to the entrance. The bell rang. Taking the steps two at a time, he ran into the school hallway and, breathing heavily, reached his classroom.
He was late after all... albeit only by a few minutes.
???
After one of the last Dark Fountains closed, Chris, Susie, and Ralsei were sure that everything was over.
They were wrong.
As they left the Dark World, none of them noticed that someone else was watching them. A being without a name. Without a soul. Without pity.
It did not attack.
It waited.
When Chris and Susie left the Dark World, the entity followed them and found itself in the Light World for the first time.
At first, she simply observed the city's inhabitants, studying their habits, voices, and memories. Simply killing wasn't enough for her. She wanted to become them.
Dess Holiday was the first to disappear.
Nobody saw what happened to her.
Her body was never found.
But after some time, residents began to notice a strange girl who looked like Dess. Almost exactly the same...
Her skin was almost completely black, as if composed of dense shadow. Her movements were unnatural, and her voice sounded as if she had learned to speak by repeating someone else's words.
That's when everything started to fall apart.
creature
Amalgamel
Status: Unknown entity.
Origin: After the closure of one of the last Dark Fountains, Amalgamel entered the Light World. No one knows whether he appeared by chance or intentionally followed Chris, Susie, and Ralsei.

Amalgamel's true form is unknown.
Most often, it appears as a completely black figure, resembling a human. Its body seems to be composed of thick shadow. Sometimes, red glowing elements appear on its body. The eyes are white or completely empty.
After consuming a victim, it can almost perfectly adopt their appearance, but the copy is never perfect. The skin remains too dark, the movements appear unnatural, and the voice seems empty and emotionless.

Amalgamel feels no pity, fear or compassion.
He's incredibly patient. He can observe a person for days or even weeks before making the first move.
He rarely attacks outright, preferring instead to slowly destroy his victim's psyche.

The world is filled with religious symbolism, legends, and secrets, and many of its locations exude a sense of mystery and grandeur.
🏰 Castle Town
A special Dark World serving as a safe haven for heroes. It was created by the Great Fountain of Darkness and gradually becomes home to the inhabitants of other Dark Worlds. After each new Dark Fountain closes, rescued Dark Ones move here, transforming the Castle Town into a peaceful kingdom where they can live together.

white fountain
🤍 White Fountain
The White Fountain is an extremely rare and almost mythical phenomenon, known only from ancient legends and a few surviving records. Throughout history, not a single case of its existence has been officially confirmed.
Unlike ordinary Dark Fountains, which emit dark energy, the White Fountain emits a soft, pure-white light that evokes no fear or anxiety. Many people feel an unusual sense of calm and warmth when near it.
✨ Features
According to legend, the White Fountain does not create the Dark World.
Instead, he restores the damaged border between the Light and Dark worlds, cleanses unstable magic and weakens the influence of the Darkness.
In places where the White Fountain appears:
🕊️ Impact on living beings
Light Ones who find themselves near the White Fountain do not change their appearance, as happens in the Dark World. Instead, their Soul gradually calms, and feelings of fear, anger, or despair become weaker.
The White Fountain has a different effect on the Dark Ones. It doesn't harm them, but it significantly weakens their connection to Dark Energy. Some Dark Ones even claim to feel unusually calm near the White Fountain.
📖 Legends
According to one ancient legend, the White Fountain appears only when the balance between Light and Darkness is on the verge of destruction.
Another legend claims that the White Fountain can only arise through incredibly strong hope, self-sacrifice, or the desire to save both sides of the conflict.
None of these legends have been confirmed.
🔬 Research
Alphys believes that the White Fountain may be the opposite of the Dark Fountain and have a completely different nature.
However, no scientific evidence exists yet. All information is based solely on ancient texts and legends.
dark robots
🤖 War Machines of the Dark World
After the discovery of the Cyberworld, many Dark Ones gained access to ancient technologies capable of combining Dark magic with high-tech machinery. Over time, this knowledge led to the creation of the Dark World's first military machines.
Unlike the robots of the Light World, most Dark machines do not use artificial intelligence. Their core is the energy of the Dark Fountain, which enables them to move independently, follow orders, and use magic.
⚙️ Creation
The development of military machines is carried out by Cyberworld engineers, Swatch masters, and the best Dark mages.
Each robot is handcrafted, its core infused with concentrated Dark Fountain energy. This is why producing such machines takes a long time and requires a huge amount of resources.
🛡️ Appointment
War machines are used in cases where regular Dark Ones cannot cope with a threat.
Their main tasks are:
🤖 Types of cars
Shadow Guardian
The most common model.
Armed with an energy sword and a heavy shield, he is used to guard fortresses and patrol territories.
Siege Golem
A huge fighting machine, more than ten meters high.
Equipped with heavy armor and powerful plasma cannons, it is used to defend cities and destroy large enemies.
Observer
A small flying drone.
Used for reconnaissance, searching for enemies and transmitting information to commanders.
Engineer
Specialized support robot.
Repairs damaged equipment, restores protective barriers and helps build fortifications.
Guardian of the Fountain
The most advanced war machine of the Dark World.
Created exclusively to protect the most important Dark Fountains, it possesses a huge energy reserve and can be used as a technological weapon.
Knight of Roar
⚔️ Roaring Knight
Status: Unknown.
Age: Unknown.
Location: Unknown.
Threat Level: ⚫ Absolute.
The Thundering Knight is the most enigmatic figure in the entire history of the Dark World. Most researchers believe him to be the creator of the modern Dark Fountains. Despite this, no one knows his true identity: a man, a monster, a Dark One, or a being that existed before both worlds.
Not a single witness has managed to see his face. All descriptions agree on one thing: a tall silhouette in black armor, a long cloak, and a sword cloaked in Dark energy. Wherever the Knight appears, a new Dark Fountain soon opens.
📜 Goals
The Roaring Knight's true intentions remain unknown.
Some believe that he wants to destroy the Light World.
Others believe that he is trying to unite the Light and Dark worlds, ending their division.
According to ancient legends, it is the Knight who seeks to bring about the Rokot—the event that will cause the border between the two worlds to disappear and allow the Titan to awaken.
No one knows whether he truly wants to awaken the Titan or whether he is pursuing a completely different goal.
⚔️ Abilities
The Knight's exact abilities are unknown, but he is credited with the following abilities:
No known opponent has ever been able to defeat him or even seriously injure him.
👁️ Connection with the First Fountain
Among Alphys's oldest records and the few remaining documents from the time of the monsters' release, there is a theory that it was the Roaring Knight who opened the first Dark Fountain.
During the final battle with the man who possessed the Soul of Determination, the last royal guard was absorbed by the suddenly appearing Fountain and disappeared without a trace.
Some researchers believe that this was not an accident.
titanium
👁️ Titan of Darkness
Titan is the most ancient being of the Dark World and the embodiment of the energy of Rokot.
According to ancient legends, it was not created by any Dark Fountain. On the contrary, it is believed that its power gave birth to the first Darkness long before the emergence of known worlds.
Titan is usually in a deep sleep beyond space and time.
However, if too many Dark Fountains open at once, or the Rumble begins, he will be able to awaken.
🌌 Appearance
Titan is so huge that it cannot be seen in its entirety.
His body is shrouded in endless Darkness, and individual parts resemble giant stone armor covered with glowing cracks.
His eyes shine with a bright white light and can be seen for many kilometers.
According to legend, his steps are capable of splitting the earth, and the movement of his hands causes magical storms.
💀 Abilities
Manipulation of pure Dark energy.
Creation and destruction of Dark Fountains.
Distortion of space and time.
Subjugating the weak Dark Ones to one's will.
Creating an army of shadow creatures.
Enormous physical strength.
Almost complete invulnerability.
📜 Legend
Ancient texts say that Titan never sought to destroy the world.
It appears only when the balance between Light and Darkness is disturbed.
Some consider him a destroyer.
Others - the last keeper of the laws of the world.
Even the Knight of Rumble doesn't attempt to subjugate the Titan. Instead, he seeks to create conditions that will make the Titan's awakening inevitable.
⚠️ Threat Level
Absolute.
If the Titan fully awakens, the armies of humans, monsters, and most of the Dark Ones will not be able to stop it on their own.
Therefore, the main task of the Light heroes, the Salvation Alliance, and even many inhabitants of the Dark World is to prevent the Rumble from starting and to prevent the Titan from waking up.
the power of the dark
⚔️ Military Forces of the Dark World
The military forces of the Dark World are not a unified army. Each Dark Fountain creates its own kingdom, city, or state, with its own defenders, commanders, and laws. In times of peace, most Dark Ones do not wage war, but when their Fountain is threatened, they are ready to unite.
The Dark Ones' primary mission is to protect the Dark Fountains, their lands, and their inhabitants. Many consider the Fountain to be the heart of their world, and are willing to sacrifice their lives to preserve it.
🛡️ Army composition
The armies of the different Dark Worlds vary from one another, but most often they include:
During a major threat, the armies of several Dark Worlds can unite into a single force.
⚔️ Armament
The Dark Ones use weapons created from the energy of the Dark Fountains:
Their weapons are especially effective inside the Dark World, where they feed on the energy of the Fountains.
🌑 Attitude towards the Light
Most Dark Ones do not hate Light Ones.
For them, the Light Ones are heroes of an ancient legend, capable of both saving the world and destroying it by closing the Fountains.
Because of this, attitudes toward them vary greatly. Some see the Light Ones as allies, while others view them as a threat to the existence of their world.

the power of light
⚔️ Light World Defense Forces
After the Barrier's destruction, humans and monsters lived in peace for a long time. However, with the emergence of new Dark Fountains, it became clear that the Salvation Alliance alone could not protect everyone.
Therefore, the governments of humans and monsters jointly created the Light World Defense Forces - an international military organization designed to protect the population from major threats.
Unlike the Rescue Alliance, the Defense Force's primary mission is not rescue operations, but rather the containment of dangerous creatures, the protection of cities, and the maintenance of order during emergency situations.
🛡️ Main tasks
👥 Army composition
The Defense Forces are made up of both humans and monsters.
Each soldier undergoes training in the use of modern weapons, monster magic, and actions against creatures of the Dark World.
To enable collaboration, special technologies were developed that allowed the combination of human technology and the magical abilities of monsters.
🚜 Military equipment
The army uses modern armored vehicles, aircraft, and special vehicles reinforced with magical barriers.
Some combat vehicles are equipped with protective field generators capable of withstanding attacks from Dark creatures.
During operations near Dark Fountains, equipment protected from the effects of dark energy is used.
⚔️ Interaction with the Salvation Alliance
Despite their different missions, both organizations constantly work together.
While the Rescue Alliance evacuates civilians and provides aid to the injured, the Defense Forces hold the front line, preventing the dangerous creatures from approaching populated areas.
The commanders of both organizations maintain constant communication, and during major operations
???
🌌 Invasion through the Dark Fountain
Dark Fountains typically serve only as entrances to the Dark World. As long as the Fountain remains small and stable, the Dark Ones cannot freely leave their dimension, and the boundary between worlds remains strong.
However, there is an extremely rare and dangerous phenomenon - an unstable or super-large Dark Fountain.
If such a Fountain appears in the Light World and continues to grow, the boundary between the two dimensions begins to collapse. Over time, the passage becomes large enough to allow passage not only for Light Worlds but also for inhabitants of the Dark World.
The first to emerge are usually small Dark creatures, disoriented by the transition. If the Fountain isn't closed in time, they are followed by more powerful inhabitants of the Dark World. Some are peaceful and simply trying to survive in an unfamiliar place, but others become a serious threat to the inhabitants of the Light World.
The longer such a Fountain exists, the stronger its influence on the surrounding area. Space begins to distort, ordinary objects can turn into Dark Ones, and the laws of physics and magic become unstable. In extreme cases, part of the Light World gradually begins to transform into the Dark World.
That's why the emergence of a major Dark Fountain is considered a top-level emergency. The Rescue Alliance immediately evacuates civilians, isolates the danger zone, and helps Light Heroes reach the Fountain's source to seal it before the boundary between worlds completely disappears.
According to ancient legends, if too many large Dark Fountains open simultaneously, the Roar will begin—a catastrophe in which the Light and Dark worlds will merge into a single unstable reality. This is the event most feared by both the inhabitants of the Light world and most of the Dark ones.
dark world
🌑 Dark World
The Dark World is a dimension existing on the other side of the Dark Fountains. Each discovered Fountain creates its own world with its own nature, laws, and inhabitants. Despite their differences, all Dark Worlds share a unique atmosphere—they seem woven from magic, shadows, and human imagination.
The sky here is almost always painted in deep, dark blue, violet, or black hues. Instead of the usual sun, it is illuminated by distant stars, multicolored nebulae, and the light emanating from the Dark Fountain itself. In some places, you can see floating islands, upside-down buildings, endless staircases, and roads leading into the void.
The landscape is constantly changing. Ancient castles can coexist with modern cities, and dense forests can become digital metropolises. Everything depends on the object or location that triggered the Dark Fountain.
The air in the Dark World is filled with magical energy. Sometimes, shimmering particles of light, reminiscent of ash or stardust, appear in it. The closer one gets to the Fountain, the stronger its energy becomes.
Time feels different in the Dark World. Sometimes hours pass like minutes, while other times a few minutes can feel like a whole day. Scientists still haven't figured out whether this is due to the space itself or just the perception of those within.
All Light Ones who enter the Dark World undergo a transformation in appearance. Their clothing transforms into equipment, and ordinary objects can become weapons, tools, or magical items. These transformations reflect each person's character, desires, and inner essence.
The inhabitants of the Dark World—the Dark Ones—don't consider their dimension evil. For them, it's as much a home as the Light World is for humans and monsters. Many of them lead ordinary lives: working, traveling, opening shops, cooking, and making friends.
However, there are areas where even the bravest Dark Ones dare not enter. These places are called the Abyssal Zones. There, light almost completely disappears, and space becomes unstable.
Salvation Alliance
🛡️ Rescue Alliance
The Salvation Alliance is a major international organization, founded several decades after the Barrier's destruction. Its primary mission is to protect the lives of humans and monsters, deal with the aftermath of disasters, and investigate dangerous anomalies associated with the Dark Fountains.
After humans and monsters united, it became clear that conventional rescue services were insufficient. New threats—magical fires, unstable Fountains, energy surges, and destructive anomalies—required completely different technologies. This is why the Rescue Alliance was founded.
Today, the organization has bases in many cities and is considered a symbol of security. Its employees are trained in both modern technology and the use of monster magic.
📋 Main tasks

influence of the fountain
Influence of the Dark Fountain
Dark Fountains not only create Dark Worlds, but also transform everyone who enters them. These changes are not random—the Fountain seems to reveal the true essence of a person or monster, transforming it into a physical form.
The longer a creature remains in the Dark World, the stronger the connection between them and the Darkness. If they leave the Dark World in time, the changes disappear. However, staying too long can lead to irreversible consequences.
Changes affect not only appearance but also abilities. Clothing transforms into combat gear, ordinary objects can become weapons or magical artifacts, and hidden character traits gain material form.
Some researchers believe that this is why each Light One looks different in the Dark World.
👤 Chris
After entering the Dark World, Chris's clothing transforms into dark blue armor with silver accents. A long cloak appears on his back, and his hair grows slightly longer, covering part of his face.
His wooden training sword turns into a true magical weapon, capable of channeling the energy of the Soul of Determination.
Chris's main characteristic is his red Soul. In the Dark World, it glows brighter than in the Light World, causing his strength to gradually increase during prolonged battles.
Despite his outward calm, it is Chris who possesses the strongest resistance to the influence of Darkness and is able to maintain clarity of mind longer than others.
🦖 Susie
In the Dark World, Susie becomes noticeably taller and more massive. Her clothing transforms into heavy purple armor adorned with metal plates.
Durable combat gloves appear on her hands, and her favorite axe becomes a huge two-handed weapon, capable of destroying even magical barriers.
The influence of the Dark World enhances her physical strength and endurance, but has little effect on her personality. Just like in the Light World, Susie remains fiery, courageous, and ready to defend her friends to the bitter end.

When the man with the Soul of Resolve reached the Throne Room, it became clear that he could not be stopped by conventional means. The Royal Guard had already suffered enormous losses, and Asgore was mortally exhausted from the long battle.
In a desperate attempt to save the king and the other monsters, Alphys made a risky decision.
She ordered the last surviving guard to absorb all six human Souls. According to her calculations, the power of the Souls would briefly transform him into a being equal in power to the gods, capable of stopping the human and ending the battle without further casualties.
The Guardian understood that such a force could destroy his body, but he still agreed.
Alphys opened the protective capsule, and six Souls entered the warrior's body one after another. He felt incredible power, but was unable to control it.
At that very moment, space was torn apart.
The first ever Dark Fountain opened in the middle of the throne room.
Black streams of energy enveloped the guard before he could awaken the power of the Souls. Before everyone's eyes, his body vanished into the Darkness, along with six human Souls.
The fountain closed after a few seconds.
Everyone decided that the guardian had died and the Souls had been destroyed.
But for many years, Alphys couldn't shake off the feeling of guilt. She was convinced that it was her decision that led to the disappearance of the kingdom's last defender.
However, the truth turned out to be much more terrible.
The Six Souls did not disappear.
They were transported to the Dark World along with their guardian. There, their power lay dormant, awaiting the moment when their master could awaken it. But one hundred and twenty years spent in the Darkness had changed both the guardian and the power of the Souls.
Now they were no longer what they had been known as before.
If their true power were ever to awaken, it could either destroy the Darkness completely or pave the way for a catastrophe that would engulf both worlds.
first years of life
The first years of life on the surface
The destruction of the Barrier marked the beginning of a new era. After centuries spent in the Dungeon, the monsters saw the true sky for the first time, felt the wind and sunlight. For many, it was like a dream finally coming true.
However, freedom brought not only joy, but also new difficulties.
People were wary of the monsters. Although the war had long since ended, its memory lived on in legends and old books. Many feared that the ancient conflict might recur.
Asgore, understanding the fears of both sides, voluntarily renounced his title as king. He declared that the monster race no longer needed a ruler, but must forge its own future alongside humans. This act was the first step toward peace.
Toriel took up teaching children, helping the young monsters adjust to their new life. Alphys, along with human scientists, began studying surface technology to combine it with monster magic. Gradually, the first schools, hospitals, and workshops emerged, where humans and monsters worked side by side.
In the early years, many monsters missed the Dungeon. Despite the cramped conditions and dangers, it had been their home for generations. Some even returned to the entrance of the old ruins to once again see the place where they spent their childhood.
To preserve the memory of the past, it was decided not to demolish the entrance to the Dungeon. It was closed and declared a historical monument. Every year, residents came there to honor the memory of those who never lived to see liberation.
After several decades, relations between humans and monsters had improved significantly. Cities began to grow, mixed families emerged, and the younger generation no longer divided each other into humans and monsters.
But only a few knew that on the day of the Barrier's destruction, another event occurred.
In the final seconds of the great battle, the first Dark Fountain opened. It engulfed the last warrior of the Royal Guard and vanished without a trace. In the chaos, no one understood what had happened, and the official records remained.
city
Hope City
After the Barrier's destruction, the monsters built a new city on the surface. Over time, it became a symbol of peace between humans and monsters. It was here that a new chapter of their history began.
One hundred and twenty years have already passed.
Old houses gradually gave way to modern buildings, and schools, parks, hospitals, shopping centers, and businesses emerged. Monster magic and human technology developed alongside each other, making the city one of the most peaceful and safe places in the world.
Most of the inhabitants are monsters. There are almost no people here, so Chris is the only person permanently living in the city.
Central Square
The heart of the city. Here stands a monument to the heroes who gave their lives during the liberation of the monsters. The names of the fallen members of the Royal Guard are carved into granite slabs. Every year, residents gather here to honor their memory.
Dreemurr District
A quiet neighborhood where Asgore, Toriel, and Chris live. Their house is surrounded by a large garden of golden flowers, reminiscent of those that once grew in the Underground. Even though Asgore is no longer king, many residents still greet him with great respect.
Academy of Light
The city's main school, where the monster children study. It's where Chris, Susie, and their classmates go every day. The school museum houses a small exhibit dedicated to the history of the Underground and the destruction of the Barrier.
Shopping district
The city's most vibrant area, home to shops, cafes, restaurants, and Mettaton Studios, where popular TV shows are filmed. On weekends, the streets fill with musicians, artists, and tourists.
Old Memorial Park
The quietest spot in the city. Trees are planted here in memory of those who did not live to see liberation. In the center of the park stands a monument to Asriel Dreemurr, and nearby is a small lake reflecting the night sky.
Alphys Science Center
A modern laboratory where magic, new technologies, and the mysterious Dark Fountains are studied. Much of the research is classified.

The Legend of the Dark Fountains
After the Barrier's destruction, the human and monster worlds finally became one. It seemed the centuries-long war had ended forever. However, with the Barrier's disappearance, the balance between Light and Darkness was disrupted.
On the day of the final battle, when the man with the Soul of Resolve drew upon all his power, a crack appeared in space. From it erupted the first Dark Fountain in history. It lasted only a few seconds, but that was enough to engulf the last warrior of the Royal Guard.
The fountain disappeared as suddenly as it had appeared.
No one understood what had happened. Some believed it to be an unknown spell, others the final consequences of the Barrier's destruction. Over time, the event was forgotten.
But after one hundred and twenty years, the Dark Fountains began to appear again.
Each Fountain gives birth to its own Dark World—a place where desires, fears, and memories take physical form. Within such a world, different laws of time operate. While years pass in the Light World, decades or even centuries can pass in the Dark World.
That's why the last guard survived. For him, one hundred and twenty years became a long struggle for life amidst endless darkness. He witnessed the birth of new Dark Worlds and learned secrets untold to anyone else.
Rumor has it that something exists that controls all the Fountains. An ancient power, hidden deep in the Darkness, awaits the moment when all the Fountains merge into one. If this happens, the boundary between the Light and Dark Worlds will disappear, and both realities will merge.
Some believe that the Dark Fountains are simply a natural phenomenon.
Others are sure that someone is deliberately opening them.
But only one captive knows the truth.
The last royal guard witnessed the birth of the very first Dark Fountain with his own eyes. And its return could change the fate of both worlds.

prologue
Prologue
Everyone remembers the story of the Dungeon. The story of a man with the Soul of Determination who changed the fate of an entire people.
The barrier has fallen.
After a long battle, the monsters finally managed to emerge onto the surface. But victory came at a high price. Almost the entire Royal Guard perished defending their friends and the king. Their names gradually became the stuff of legend.
Only one of the guards did not die.
During the final battle, as the man exerted the full force of his Resolve, a mysterious Dark Fountain suddenly opened right in the middle of the battlefield. It consumed the last guardian, trapping him forever in endless darkness. No one saw him again, and everyone assumed he had perished with the others.
Years passed.
Ten years passed. Then fifty. Then a hundred and twenty.
The world has changed.
Monsters and humans learned to live together. Old wars became pages of history, and stories about the Barrier became fairy tales that almost no one believed anymore.
Asgore was no longer king. He had abdicated the throne after freeing his people and had begun a quiet, peaceful life with Toriel. They had put the past behind them, trying to forget the pain and loss.
The new generation of monsters no longer knew what life underground was like.
But in the depths of the Dark World, time flowed differently.
That same guard was still a prisoner of endless darkness. A hundred and twenty years of solitude had changed him, and the Dark World had left a mark on him that should not have existed.
And when new Dark Fountains began to appear in the world, the ancient prisoner finally got a chance to escape.
Thus begins the story that will one day be called Deltarune.
