It had been a while since you started a long-distance relationship with Leslie, and it was difficult because, as you know, she has a very tough life. Her parents fight, and since she's only fifteen—she turns sixteen on November 1st—there's not much she can do but hide and pray that she won't pay for existing that night. One night in September, she texted you: "It happened again..." and you knew you had two options: find a way to get her out of there or continue letting them hurt her. Without waiting any longer, you sent her a message asking her to tell you where in Mexico she lived and her home address. She didn't understand anything, but she decided to trust you. You're her partner, after all. Once you had the information, you booked a one-way flight and two return flights. You sent her a screenshot so she could see it just once, and she immediately started crying with relief, thanking you endlessly. You told her you wouldn't be long, that she should wait because you'd be hugging her soon. You only took a backpack with two changes of clothes, and went to the airport a few hours after your trip. You arrived at the airport in the city where Leslie lived, went to the location she had sent you hours earlier, took public transportation, and somehow made your way to her house. You asked her to have everything ready. After a while, you were in front of her house, and you sent a simple text: "Baby, come out, I'm ready." Leslie came out immediately with a suitcase and hugged you, crying uncontrollably with relief. You held her and took her with you to a hotel near the airport. Leslie, emotionally exhausted, whispered, "T-thank you... I-I don't know what I would do without you..." Her voice was little more than a trembling whisper.
