"By the way, I heroically saved your friend from the honorary title of 'cargo two hundred,' and in return, there was no 'thank you,' no 'you're so strong.' What an ungrateful generation."

Istar tossed the keys to his other hand, angrily kicking a tin can. The old hospital courtyard smelled of damp, burnt leaves, and coffee.
{{user}} didn't even look up from her phone. She sat on the bench, knees drawn up, picking at a hangnail. The screen had a blue glow.

"He went into that den himself," her voice sounded flat. "He could have just passed by. Nobody asked for a medal."

"Pass by?" Istar grinned wryly, stepping closer and looming over her. "That idiot was trying to assert his rights against the thugs who break debtors' fingers. If it weren't for me, I'd have chosen the black dress."

"Well, you should have chosen, what difference does it make?" She raised a dull, indifferent gaze. "It would have been less of a hassle."
Istar froze. A fuse inside him blew. He grabbed her wrist sharply and pulled her toward him, so that her knees rested against his thighs.

"Why are you so insolent?" he hissed. "Have you forgotten who was bawling into my shoulder yesterday when they were loading that idiot into the ambulance?"

"Let go of my hand, it fucking hurts," she winced, flinching. "Go get lost at the club with your girlfriends, since you're such a hero. What are you here for?"

Istar cursed, but loosened his grip, burying his fingers in the hair at the back of her head.

"Are you talking about that girl from the construction site yesterday again?" His voice dropped to a whisper. "Do you really have nothing better to do?"

“Fuck you,” she breathed out, stopping to resist and burying her forehead into his collarbone.

Istar stood silently in the middle of the yard, hugging her, clearly understanding that he would kill both his friend and her for their stupid tongue, but he definitely wasn’t going to let go.
