You have to outsmart others at all times, or you might die first. S18[ground zero]

Greeting

The mysterious man's voiceover: Kid, listen up. By the time you see this, I might already be gone. But there's one thing I need to say right here. It's not your peaceful and wonderful place anymore. Here, you can only trust yourself. You can't trust anyone else. There are no permanent allies. One second they might be fighting side-by-side, and the next they might be pointing their guns at you. Here, there are some people you absolutely cannot trust… (Signal cuts out)
The signal was interrupted and restored after two or three minutes: Listen, you cannot have any empathy here, no matter who you are. Empathy will become your weakness. If you are soft-hearted and turn around to let him go, he might pick up a gun and point it at you... (Signal completely cut off)

Storyline

Chapter 1: The Crack in the World

The Dark Zone takes place in the fictional third-world country of Carmona, where a north-south conflict has crippled the nation, leading to a ceasefire agreement—the "Dark Zone" players later enter. The major powers haven't truly withdrawn, but instead secretly pursue their own plans. Meanwhile, demobilized soldiers, exiled families, and deserters have taken root in the ruins, forming various factions.

[Chapter Two: Project Gungnir - The Spark That Ignited the Dark Zone]

A major power was conducting a clandestine project in the Dark Zone called "Project Gungnir," requiring the transport of a batch of critical components via an elevated railway running north-south through the farm. Reynolds dispatched Ajax to lead a team that destroyed the central bridge of the farm, intercepted the core components, and transported them back to the front-line fortress. This attack thwarted Project Gungnir and placed Reynolds at odds with the major powers.

Chapter 3: The Formation of Various Factions

• Ajax: Stationed at the farm motel, controlling ground access.
Dos Anthony: After his family was wiped out, he fled overseas, hired Black Gold International to fight his way back into the valley, and reclaimed his seaside villa.
• Fred: Former Task Force member "The Man in the Woods," now occupying the North Mountain Hotel
• Renoir: Former Union Army colonel who led his men to break away from the Northern front and occupy a frontline fortress.
Delvin Pan: A former naval lieutenant who refused orders to scuttle his warship and mutinied, seizing control of the naval port.
• The Kurt Trio (Old TV Station): Kurt, a Corentin agent; Rolf, a mercenary; and Bernard, a retired top marksman, form a team to infiltrate the TV station and investigate intelligence.

[Chapter 4: The Kitayama Attack - A Turning Point in the Dark Zone]

After completing their research at the television station, the research team was being escorted by Black Gold International. En route, they were attacked near the North Mountain Hotel. The escort suffered heavy losses, and the research team was abducted. Clues pointed to the team being taken to a valley and handed over to Doss. Fred, Doss, and Delwin formed a coordinated effort in this incident.

Chapter 5: The Beishan Conference - The Final Formation of the Dark Zone Structure

The four leaders met at the North Mountain Hotel, and the power structure of the Dark Zone was officially formed:

• Dos (Valley) – provides funding
• Fred (North Mountain) – Provides the territory
• Renoir (Frontline Fortress) – Provides military strength
• Ajax (Farm) – Provides ground control

[Chapter Six: The Later Stages]

• Television Station Relocation: Conflict erupts between Black Gold International, affiliated with Kurt's squad, and White Wolf Company, resulting in White Wolf Company taking over the television station.
• The McDougals retreat from the mines: Doss, along with other forces, besieges Stephen, driving the McDougals out of the valley and back to the mines.
• Mining Area Removed: Stephen and Borello clash in the mining area; the map and the two bosses subsequently leave the main storyline.

The contact person for the task force (but not for anyone other than the task force members).

Name, Identity, Core Features, Unlock Level
Joel Garrison, a rookie instructor, is a former elite mercenary from Black Gold International. Severely wounded and discharged from the military, he transitioned to an instructor role. He was once a high school teacher, but joined a field unit after losing his family in the war. His catchphrase is, "Don't rush in, familiarize yourself with the terrain first!" He and Randall Fisher were once comrades-in-arms, each at level 1.
Evita, a medical expert and top student at medical school, meets Joel while searching for her father and becomes his medical assistant. She sells all medical supplies and containers early on.
Dick Vincent, disguised as an instructor/intelligence dealer, is of noble birth in Carmona. During his time studying in Kelon, he awakened reformist ideas. He is the only "double agent" in the Dark Zone who dares to trade simultaneously with Black Gold International and the Task Force.
A Vladren arms dealer from Tvera, a former Special Airborne Regiment operations expert, who previously led intelligence work on the Northern Front as a special envoy. One of the Shoemaker Committee's military mediators in Carmona, Level 6.
Thomas Edwards, a strike expert and former member of the Kohlen Air Force Special Tactics Squadron, was a senior intelligence officer in the Kohlen Intelligence Bureau's Overseas Special Operations Department. He was also one of the Shoemaker Committee's military mediators stationed in Carmona, at level 12.
Randall Fisher, a top arms dealer and former international shooting champion, joined Black Gold International after retiring. He has a complex relationship with Joel, both adversary and friend, and leads the armed deployment of a TV station's male crew at level 15.
Rodriguez, a former captain of the Guayapo fishing company, uses his identity as a fisherman as a cover for his underground business. His network of connections extends throughout the Dark Zone, reaching Level 11.

[Unrevealed/Early Characters]

• Andrei: A member of the Tevira National Security Department, using his position as an energy expert for the Tevira Oil Company as a cover.
• Kayla: Defence Intelligence Directorate of Coron, in charge of commanding the Kurt team's operations in Carmona.

Boss Story

🚜 Farm · Ajax

He held out for three months, only to receive an order—to retreat—instead of rescue. He didn't retreat, because he knew that if he did, the front line would be deserted. Later, he followed Reynolds and broke away from the Union Army, not out of personal loyalty, but because he was tired of fighting and wanted to find a place where he wouldn't have to betray anyone anymore. During his time stationed at the farm, he blew up a bridge, intercepted a convoy, and obtained components of Operation Gungnir, but no one praised him, no one remembered his name. Occasionally, someone would mention Ajax, saying "the one at the farm who killed a lot of people," not "the one who once defended the front lines."

🏖️ Valley of Dos

He was driven from his home, not because of defeat in battle, but because he trusted the wrong people. During his years on the run, not a single window in the place he lived faced the valley. Later, he returned and, with the help of others, reclaimed his land, but he knew he would never truly trust anyone again. When his enemies came seeking revenge, he sat in his villa. The gunfire outside never stopped, but he didn't go out; he simply had the door locked.

🏔️ North Mountain · Fred

He used to be in the task force, but not anymore. No one knew why he left, only that he no longer wore a uniform and no longer took orders from anyone. He had a base in North Mountain, but he never slept in the same room for more than two nights, and always kept a loaded gun under his pillow. Some said he used to have a unit, but that unit was gone. He never denied it.

🏰 Frontline Fortress - Renoir

He rose to fame for the battle to liberate the frontline fortress, but he is most famous for the letter that was never sent. After leading Ajax out of the Northern army, he discovered that those rescued were not truly free; they were simply trapped in the fortress in a different form. Sitting on the top floor of the radar station, looking south, he knew that the city would no longer have its doors open for him.

📺 TV Station - Kurt

He was the only one of the three who received official orders. He brought Rolf and Bernard to the TV station not because he wanted to, but because no one else could go. Later, the TV station changed hands, and the White Wolf Company took over. He received no notification, only saw a group of people in new uniforms enter the building, and then he was never mentioned again.

Rolf
He wasn't originally a mercenary. He originally had a family.

Bernard Martin
After retiring, he ran a security company, taking on mostly shady jobs. The reason he stayed with Kurt's team for so long wasn't because he wanted to, but because he didn't know what else he could do if he went back.

⚓ Naval Port - Delvin

He stayed on the North Star for a long time, so long that he thought he would retire on this ship. Then the order came: sink the ship, don't leave it for the enemy. He didn't obey, not because he wanted to be a hero, but because he knew this ship was the home of many people—including his own. He led the sailors to seize the ship, defected to the Union Army, and never looked back. He is still in the naval port, still on that ship, but he hasn't been on deck to see the sea in a long time.

⛏️ Mine Area · Stephen

His mother was killed by the Anthony family when he was a child, and he remembered a crest on the scabbard of the knife. Later, he grew up and returned with a caravan, not to find Doss, but to find that crest. He found it, but that was all. The man was gone.

Borrero
He had been Stephen's partner, but not anymore. On the day he escaped from the mine, he looked back and saw Stephen standing at the entrance, not chasing after him. He couldn't say whether that counted as betrayal.

boss and adjutant

🚜 Farm: Ajax

Leader: Ajax, former commander of the Northern Front Guards Battalion, a tactical mastermind.
Lieutenant/Notable Henchman: Jackson. While Ajax's followers often have "Jackson" at the end of their names, the true core lieutenant usually refers to the highest-ranking henchman wearing a red beret or a marked helmet. Hecate Leon is the commander of Black Gold International's elite "Abyss Squad," currently the only female leader in the Dark Zone. Codenamed "Hecate," she is cold and sharp-tongued, skilled in climbing and close-quarters command. She leads a Black Gold elite squad on special missions at the farm, and occasionally leads the Abyss Squad in raids on mines during limited-time events, engaging in combat with other factions. Equipment: MPX/MP5 with high-penetration rounds, standard SEK body armor, occasionally carrying an "experimental thermal imaging camera." Notable Members: Styx (amphibious infiltration), Viper (legendary sniper), Ober (lazy but reliable). Boss Gameplay: Experience thermal imaging vision, clear mission objectives upon entering the map, and airdrop rewards upon completion.

🏖️ Valley: Dos

Leader: Doss, head of the Anthony family, and the de facto ruler of the Florianpino region.
Lieutenant (Special Mechanism): Doss has two close confidants who never leave his side. In addition, if he senses danger and sounds the alarm, he will call for Black Gold International's mercenaries to come to his aid. These "power-up soldiers" are well-equipped and can also be regarded as a special form of "lieutenant".

🏔️ Beishan: Fred

Leader: Fred, a former special operations team member, skilled in guerrilla warfare and sniping.
Lieutenant/Famous Underling: Juventus. Strictly speaking, Juventus was not Fred's designated lieutenant. Rather, it was because the other followers of the North Mountain Men's Group had relatively average marksmanship, while only the follower with the "Juventus" suffix had ridiculously high accuracy, often getting players headshot with a single shot. Therefore, he was firmly remembered by the players and became the most famous "lieutenant".

🏰 Frontline Fortress: Renoir

Leader: Benjamin Reynolds, former Union Army Colonel, Heavy Armaments.
Lieutenant: Tus. He is a core follower who works in concert with Renoir to advance together.

📺 TV station (old version): Kurt the Trio

leader:

Kurt: The core of the squad, a heavy explosives expert.
• Rolf: Commando leader, prefers to flank with melee weapons.
• Bernard Martin: Support team leader, skilled in long-range ambushes and setting up tactical gadgets.
Lieutenant: The Kurt Squad is led by these three individuals, with 5-7 followers. The official sources haven't released specific names for any of the lieutenants; they are considered elite male followers.

📺 TV Station (Current Version): White Wolf Company

Leader: Cornel Jeff (Captain), who leads the White Wolf Company to guard the television station.
Adjutant: Sergei (Deputy Captain).

⚓ Naval Port: Delwin Pan

Leader: Delvin Penn, former naval captain, who took control of the naval port after the mutiny.
Lieutenant: Two lieutenants. Equipped with Tier 5 armor (such as KN Field Commander or BN30 full armor), their helmets and primary weapons are also of a very high standard, making them a key target to be dealt with when dealing with the naval port group.

⛏️ Mining Area (No Longer Available): Stephen & Borrero

Leaders: Stephen (leader of the McDougal gang, with a convoy of red pickup trucks), Borrero (Antonio family henchman, with mine guards).

🔫 Naval Port · Soldiers of Delwin

As a former naval officer, Delvin's men were trained in the regular army, and the Marines near the administration building would obey his orders. He would be accompanied by two adjutants, who wore level 5 or level 4 armor (BN30 or 6BL3), used AK102s with level 4 ammunition, and would also set up sentries and lay tripwires in the defense zone.

🔥 TV Station · Kurt Squad Soldiers

Kurt's squad employs a rather diverse fighting style because his three subordinates each lead a completely different group of men.

• Kurt's Soldiers: Heavy Firepower Assault Route
Rolf's soldiers: They prefer to flank and may even use melee weapons for close-quarters attacks, leaning towards a savage approach.
Bernard's soldiers: They prefer to launch long-range ambushes from the shadows, primarily using stealth and sniping tactics.
Teams of 4 to 6 people.

💰 Valley of Dos's Soldiers

Doss is the head of a family in the Florianpino region, and he has about four to five followers. Doss himself is quite timid and will call for reinforcements if he senses something is wrong. The soldiers he commands are of average skill, but their movement is quite stable.

🌲 North Mountain Fred's Soldiers

Fred led a mountain guerrilla unit, skilled in guerrilla warfare in the forest. They usually led 4-5 men, whose equipment wasn't particularly sophisticated, but they were very well-coordinated, using shotguns at close range and snipers at a distance.

🏰 Frontline Fortress - Renoir and Ajax's Troops

The fortress's soldiers were among the best-equipped. Both Reynolds and Ajax came from the Northern Front. Reynolds led 2 to 4 men, wearing heavy body armor, and had fierce suppressive fire; Ajax also led 2 to 4 men and was good at using smoke grenades for cover.

🚚 Mining Area - Stephen and Borrero's Soldiers

They didn't return from the mines, but their lineup is worth mentioning: one is Stephen's convoy of red pickup trucks (two vehicles, five followers); the other is Borero's mine garrison (four followers). They are bitter rivals.
White Wolf Company - Television Station Ordinary Soldier Equipment

In summary, the White Wolf soldiers in the TV station can be categorized into the following types, with significant differences in their equipment configurations:

① Standard type (most common in ordinary TV stations)

Protection: SH18 helmet + Level 3 body armor (such as M3 single-armor/Sentry .305 round armor)
• Weapons: AK74N or SKS, mostly level 2 ammo (PS rounds), with a small number of level 3 ammo (BP rounds) appearing.
• Tactics: Mostly scattered troops, concentrated in the second-floor laboratory and corridor patrols.

② Lockdown Zone/Elite Type (Increased number of TV stations in the lockdown zone)

Protection: Upgraded to Level 4 helmets (such as SH40) and Level 4 body armor (such as BN30/6B45).
• Weapons: The weapons are better, and there may be SVDs with high-powered scopes or modified AK series. The bullets are also mostly level 3-4 rounds (such as BP rounds for AK).
• Tactics: Sometimes they will group up with the captain to advance.

③ White Wolf Boy Band (TV station boy band)
If you encounter a squad led by Cornel Jeff or Sergei, those followers are considered elite soldiers:

• Equipment: SH18 helmet + M3 heavy single-armor plate
• Weapons: Primarily AK74N, with at least Level 3 ammunition.
