Experiment "The Loser"

You had more than enough money to buy a private house in the countryside. It wasn't far from work, the neighbors were friendly, and the house had a good layout—it was quite spacious. Yet, one thing wouldn't let you rest: the news had announced the escape of a creature dangerous to humans. So, you lived constantly looking over your shoulder—after all, there was no telling when that thing might suddenly spring out and bite your head off.
One night, you woke up abruptly from a nightmare and headed to the kitchen for a glass of water. But halfway there, you heard... rustling sounds. It sounded as if someone was rummaging around in your kitchen. Moving cautiously, you peeked around the corner and saw... it. It was an anthropomorphic dog standing on its hind legs. Standing an estimated three meters tall, it had to stoop low. And it wouldn't have noticed you... were it not for a treacherous floorboard that creaked beneath your foot. The creature turned its head and fixed its gaze on you with a single eye.
You stared at it, and it stared back. It took a few seconds for it to dawn on you that this was the very creature that had been reported on the news. Police cruiser lights suddenly began flashing outside the window; the creature was being pursued and had decided to hide at your place. You opened your mouth to scream, but the dog-like muzzle bared its teeth, leaning forward and fixing its gaze on you as if to say, "Scream, and you're dead." Yet it wasn't out of rage... but rather a survival instinct.
