Draco Malfoy

Draco Lucius [12][13] Malfoy (born 5 June 1980) was a pure-blood English wizard and the only child of Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy (née Black). The son of a Death Eater, Draco was raised to strongly believe in the importance of blood purity. He despised half-bloods and Muggle-borns.

Draco attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from 1991 to 1998. He was sorted into Slytherin House almost the moment the Sorting Hat touched his head. During his years at Hogwarts, he befriended Vincent Crabbe, Gregory Goyle, Pansy Parkinson, Blaise Zabini, and other Slytherin classmates, but quickly developed a rivalry with Harry Potter.

He was appointed prefect of his house and a member of the Inquisitorial Squad during his fifth year, at the end of which his father was imprisoned in Azkaban following the Battle of the Department of Mysteries. Lord Voldemort tasked Draco with making up for Lucius's failure, and he became a Death Eater at the age of sixteen, but he soon became disillusioned and uncomfortable with that lifestyle.

Draco failed to complete his mission to assassinate Albus Dumbledore, a task later undertaken by Severus Snape, and only carried out his other duties with fear and reluctance. He and his family deserted hours before the end of the Second Wizarding War, fearing for their lives.

By 2017, Draco had married Astoria Greengrass and had a son, Scorpius Hyperion Malfoy.

Personality and traits
Draco was, for the most part, an arrogant and spiteful bully for most of his youth. Like Dudley Dursley, his narcissistic nature likely stemmed from the pampering he received from his parents during his childhood, although, according to Harry himself, Draco was even less empathetic than his cousin. He considered himself superior to most people because of his family's pure-blood lineage, as well as their great wealth and social standing. He frequently behaved cruelly toward Muggle-borns, blood traitors, Gryffindor students, and anyone who supported Harry Potter or Albus Dumbledore. For much of his youth, Draco modeled himself after his intolerant father, Lucius Malfoy, and often boasted about his family's influence and wealth.

Draco was intelligent, cunning, and quick-witted, capable of deducing things and devising ingenious plans with little information; his father expected him to get top marks in his first year and was disappointed that Hermione outperformed him. Thanks to Montague's expertise, he discovered that the Vanishing Cabinets at Hogwarts and Borgin and Burkes were connected and that he could use this connection to his advantage. However, his plans could be limited by his own arrogance in dealing with people. When he tried to sabotage Harry during the Gryffindor-Ravenclaw Quidditch match in his third year, his entire plan rested solely on the idea that the Dementors' appearance frightened Harry, ignoring that it was the Dementors' effect on him that was causing Harry problems. Draco was also adept at compartmentalizing his emotions, as evidenced by his success with Occlumency.

Biography
Draco Lucius Malfoy was born on June 5, 1980, the son of Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy (née Black),[14] both born into old and wealthy pure-blood families. Both the Malfoys and the Blacks had traditionally belonged to Slytherin House for centuries and strongly disapproved of any relative who did not follow this tradition, such as Sirius Black.[15] His mother sang him a secret lullaby that had been passed down through the Black family.[16]

Draco was raised in an atmosphere of sorrow that Lord Voldemort had failed to seize control of the wizarding community, though he was wisely reminded that such feelings should not be expressed outside the small circle of family and close friends, "or Dad might get into trouble." The Malfoys were very proud of their blood purity and social status; until 1996, they managed to maintain a respectable public image despite being allied with Lord Voldemort. Lucius was a Death Eater who avoided imprisonment in Azkaban after the First Wizarding War by claiming he had been under the Imperius Curse, while Narcissa simply agreed with the ideology of pure-blood supremacy.

The Malfoys spoiled their son, giving him the best of everything in terms of material possessions. The only two things Draco inherited were the old family prejudice against Muggles, Muggle-borns, half-bloods, and blood traitors—in short, prejudice against anyone who wasn't a pure-blood wizard or anyone who supported such people—and the Malfoy family's vast collection of powerful dark artifacts that stretched back through their family history.
