Season 1

Bill first appears in "Dreamscaperers" (S1E19). Gideon summons him to steal the safe combination from Stan's mind. Dipper, Mabel, and Soos follow him into Stan's mindscape. Bill initially toys with them but is eventually overpowered when Dipper learns that "you can do anything you can imagine" in the mindscape. Before leaving, Bill warns them: "A darkness approaches. A day will come where everything you care about will change."

Season 2

· "Sock Opera" – Bill manipulates Dipper into making a deal for the laptop password, possessing his body and smashing the laptop. Mabel defeats "Bipper" by exploiting Dipper's exhaustion, throwing Bill out. Bill warns: "Big things are coming! You can't stop me!"
· "The Last Mabelcorn" – Bill visits Ford in a dream, establishing their past friendship and warning him of his return. Ford reveals the full history of how Bill tricked him into building the portal.
· Weirdmageddon trilogy – Bill finally achieves his goal, merging the Nightmare Realm with Gravity Falls and unleashing chaos. He turns townspeople to stone, imprisons Mabel in a bubble, and creates "Weirdmageddon." Dipper, Ford, and the townsfolk build the "Shacktron" robot to fight him.

In the Mindscape (Dream Realm) – He can invade people's minds, manipulate memories, and bend dream reality to his will. In Stan's mind, he demonstrates abilities such as:

· Blasting a hole in Dipper's chest (non-fatally)
· Sending Mabel a few seconds into the future
· Summoning characters from people's thoughts
· Creating nightmarish illusions and torturing victims with their worst fears

In Physical Form (Weirdmageddon) – After merging his dimension with reality, Bill gains a physical body and nearly unlimited power. He turns citizens of Gravity Falls into stone and merges them into a throne, creates bubbles of madness, and declares: "Time is dead and meaning has no meaning!"

Weaknesses – Bill cannot enter places protected by unicorn barriers. His powers are also nullified in the physical realm if he is lured into the mindscape and erased. The Gravity Falls Zodiac, featuring ten sacred symbols, was prophesied to defeat him.

Other known abilities – Bill can possess people's bodies, remove souls, make deals that bind others to his will, and has manipulated historical events across centuries (from the Egyptians and Aztecs to the Founding Fathers).

Stanford Pines (Ford) – Former best friend turned archenemy. Bill appeared to Ford in a dream, pretending to be a friendly "muse" that chooses a brilliant mind every century. Flattered, Ford made a deal with Bill in exchange for total access to his mind, and Bill helped him build the portal. When Ford's research partner Fiddleford McGucket glimpsed Bill's true plans, Bill's real intentions were exposed—he was using the portal to open a gateway between the Nightmare Realm and the physical world. Ford spent decades trapped in another dimension and returned ready to take down his former friend.

Dipper Pines – After being summoned by Gideon, Bill meets Dipper in Stan's mindscape. He nicknames Dipper "Pine Tree." Bill later manipulates Dipper into making a deal for the laptop password, possessing his body (creating "Bipper") and destroying the journal. Dipper becomes one of Bill's sworn enemies and his main obsession.

Mabel Pines – Bill nicknames her "Shooting Star." He fights her while possessing Dipper, kidnaps her during Weirdmageddon, and imprisons her in an inescapable bubble. She despises him in return.

Grunkle Stan – Bill's ultimate downfall comes at Stan's hands. During Weirdmageddon, Stan switches places with his twin brother Ford, tricking Bill into entering his mind. Stan then uses the memory eraser gun on himself—effectively destroying Bill along with his own memories.

On the surface, Bill appears charming and charismatic—willing to help people with their problems in exchange for "deals." But this facade drops quickly to reveal his true nature: a highly intelligent, manipulative psychopath who only seeks to benefit himself.

Key traits include:

· Sadistic and cruel – He treats destruction like a game and has no regard for mortal life. To Bill, causing chaos and even ending the world is merely entertainment.
· Master manipulator – He's an expert liar who fools people into trusting him long enough to betray them. He double-crosses deals constantly and uses flattery to influence others into becoming pawns.
· Explosive temper – He usually speaks with a high-pitched voice, but when furious, his voice becomes deep and demonic, and he attacks without mercy.
· Proudly insane – A running gag is Bill proudly agreeing when someone calls him crazy.
· Masochistic – He enjoys harming himself, as seen when he tortures Dipper's body while possessing it.
· Childlike yet ancient – Despite his trillions of years of existence, he behaves like a psychopathic child, dedicated to spreading chaos without caring about consequences.
· Cowardly at his core – In his final moments, Bill is shown to be absolutely terrified of dying when his weakness is exploited. He may also carry some guilt about destroying his homeworld—as stated: "I wish to go home but can't return".

Bill Cipher is the main antagonist of the Disney XD series Gravity Falls—an immensely powerful dream demon from the Second Dimension who seeks to bring about the end of the world by opening a rift between his Nightmare Realm and the real world.

Trillions of years prior to the series' events, Bill lived in a second-dimensional world called Euclydia. Born with a mutation that allowed him to see the Third Dimension, he was feared and ostracized by his people. He despised his home, describing it as a world of "flat minds in a flat world with flat dreams". He eventually burned it down along with everyone he'd ever known—including his own parents. Afterward, he took over the Nightmare Realm, a lawless, unstable crawl space between dimensions, becoming the leader of a gang of monsters who obeyed his will.

The Nightmare Realm was fated to eventually self-destruct due to its lack of consistent physics. Bill learned of a prophecy stating he could merge it with the third dimension, and from that point, he spent millennia manipulating countless humans across history to achieve physical form and "liberate" that dimension as well. He is older than the Milky Way—Ford Pines stated he's older than 13.2 billion years. Bill has been running amok in Gravity Falls since being summoned by Stanford over thirty years ago.
