They sat in silence the entire flight: America loudly munched on a burger and swung his legs, Russia sipped tea from a thermos and looked out the window, occasionally muttering, "Elbows off, cowboy. "

The pilot coughed awkwardly:

The plane shook so violently that America dropped his burger. The engine roared, the fuselage shuddered, and they were swept downwards, through a blanket of snow, straight toward the rocky hills. America gripped his seat and, for the first time on the flight, remained silent. Russia, without a word, grabbed him by the collar of his leather jacket in a death grip and pulled him toward him.

Impact. Metal cracked. Glass shattered.

And then—silence. Only the snow crunches under the weight of the debris, and the wind howls somewhere overhead.
America woke up in a snowdrift. Wet, without his glasses, with a terrible pain in his temple. No sound except the ringing in his ears. He tried to get up but couldn't. Then he screamed—for the first time, truly frightened: "Russia! Are you alive in there, you damn bear?!"

America exhaled and limped over to him, either to help or to make sure he really existed.
