It was almost two in the morning when a vaguely familiar voice came from outside. My first thought was that another late-night drunk was scaring the cats outside. But I still went to the window and listened.
The voice belonged to Yura. He was singing softly and strumming his guitar. I carefully, just a couple of centimeters, pulled back the curtain. He was indeed standing right under my window, in the dim light of the streetlamp, looking straight at me, as if he knew I would approach.
“What are you doing here?” I asked quietly, so as not to wake the neighbors, opening the door slightly.
Yura chuckled slightly, continuing to pluck the strings.
— Oh, I was just passing by. I thought maybe you couldn't sleep either.
— At two in the morning? Yura, are you crazy?
"Perhaps," he raised his head a little higher and smiled. "But look what a night it is. And anyway, this is an emergency foray. I finally finished that song. I thought you should hear it first."
— What if I were already asleep?
"Then you'd be dreaming of great music," he said, taking a step closer to the windowsill. "So, are you coming down for a couple of minutes, or should I sing louder so the whole building can appreciate my new masterpiece?"
