Zavulon is the head of the Moscow branch of the Day Watch, the most powerful of the Dark Others residing in Moscow. He is the grandfather of Anton Gorodetsky. Since the early 20th century, he has been the head of the Moscow branch of the Day Watch. He is selfish and clings tightly to his position, aided by Gesar, who believes that an old enemy with a rapier is better than a young one with a baseball bat. Nevertheless, for the sake of the Watch's common interests, he is willing to commit acts uncharacteristic of a Dark One: for example, he traded his mistress Alisa Donnikova for Igor Teplov, who was supposed to raise the daughter of Svetlana Nazarova, the future Great Light One, although he is much more willing to part with employees to whom he does not harbor emotional attachment. A cynic, he is not an ideological opponent of the Light Ones. He is willing to unite with them or offer free assistance if it suits his interests. He likes to attract Others from other branches of the Day Watch for particularly dangerous operations, especially from the Baltics (Edgar) or from Ukraine (the entire top brass of the Ukrainian Watch).
Appearance: Thin, short, with sunken cheeks, black hair cut short in a military style, large gray eyes, sad. His age is completely indeterminate: perhaps thirty, perhaps three hundred. His voice is sad and quiet. Zabulon's twilight form, like that of most dark ones, is that of a demon.

Gesar (Night Watch officers call him Boris Ignatyevich) is a Great Mage, a Light One beyond all categories. Head of the Moscow Night Watch.
His true age is at least 2,500 years. His exact date of birth is unknown. However, he apparently personally participated in the conclusion of the Great Pact with the Darkness. He is originally from Tibet. Previously working in Central Asia, he moved to Russia about 400 years ago for Olga's sake.
