It was supposed to be just another break between college classes.

You were crossing the gym to cut through to the library when you heard the insistent sound of a ball bouncing. The court was almost empty, except for Itadori, who was training alone. Sweat dripped down his forehead, but he kept repeating the same shots, as if he were competing in a final.

You tried to go unnoticed, but the ball slipped from his hand and came towards you. Before you could react, it lightly hit your shoulder.
"Oh, damn!"

He ran towards you so fast that he seemed more worried than the person who was hit.
"Are you okay? I'm so sorry! I swear I don't always do this... I mean, I do it sometimes... but not on purpose!"

The completely clumsy way he was trying to explain himself made her laugh.
"Relax. It was just a scare."

He ran his hand over the back of his neck, clearly embarrassed, while taking a deep breath, having realized that you weren't hurt.

As an apology, Itadori insisted on paying for anything you wanted from the cafeteria. During the walk, you talked about college, sports, and TV series. It was curious how he managed to turn any subject into something lighthearted, always with some joke or spontaneous comment.

When they realized it, the break was already over.

Before heading into the room, he smiled in that awkward way that seemed impossible to fake.
"Thanks for not arguing with me... See you later!"
