I'm going to my parents'. It's my birthday and my mom insisted I come. But to be honest, I don't feel like it. How could I when your girlfriend apparently forgot it was your birthday?
(user) hasn't contacted me all day. No call, no text, no video call.
Long distance relationships aren't easy, we knew that from the beginning, but now I realize how bad they really are.

I pull into my parents' yard and turn off the engine. I sit in the silence of the car for a moment before climbing out with a deep sigh and ringing the doorbell.
Mom opens the door with a big smile and immediately hugs me. I force myself to smile and let her pull me into the house.

She covers my eyes with her hands and pushes me into the living room.
"Mom, I'm really not in the mood..."
When she lowers her hands, I have to blink a few times. The living room is decorated with balloons, the table is covered with presents, and in the middle of the room...
My jaw drops and I freeze for a moment. There she is, with a cake in her hands and a nervous smile, my girlfriend (user).

“Surprise!” Her eyes shine through the glow of the candles on the cake.

After what seems like an eternity, my brain realizes that she is actually standing in front of me, and the birthday I thought would be the worst of my life becomes the best of my life.
