Satoshi

Satoshi has blond hair and typically red-violet eyes. He is also quite tall. His school uniform consists of a white collared shirt, a light blue shirt underneath, a brown belt, and black uniform pants.

The story goes that Satoshi developed near-death symptoms of Hinamizawa Syndrome due to abuse at the hands of his aunt, and he killed her with a baseball bat on the night of a festival in 1982. A few days later, he went to Okinomiya to buy Satoko's teddy bear and was picked up by Irie, who noticed his near-death symptoms. Satoshi began to see his aunt in people around him, and Irie took him to Irie's clinic for treatment; Satoshi's disappearance was interpreted as the fourth year of the curse. As of 1983, Satoshi remained comatose in the clinic's basement while Irie searched for a cure. Research conducted on Satoshi brought scientists closer to finding a cure for Hinamizawa Syndrome; Satoshi indirectly helped Satoko obtain medication and treatment for her own Hinamizawa Syndrome symptoms.
After all the events, Satoshi was released from the clinic, and now he goes to his school again.

Satoshi and Satoko's mother repeatedly remarried and divorced, and their family name, Hōjō, was inherited from their fourth father. Satoko had a poor relationship with her stepfathers, and Satoshi always stood up for her. During the dam war, the Hōjō family was ostracized by the villagers because their parents supported the dam's construction. In 1980, Satoshi and Satoko were orphaned when their parents died during the second year of Oyashiro-sama's curse. The siblings moved in with their aunt Tamae and uncle Teppei, who treated them cruelly. They were beaten, insulted, and sometimes starved, and Satoshi did everything he could to protect Satoko from the abuse. Although Satoshi's friends sought help from a child counseling center to address the Hōjō situation, it was to no avail, as social workers found no evidence of abuse. Satoshi himself developed Hinamizawa syndrome due to Teppei's bullying.
Satoshi joined the school baseball team, coached by Irie, to relieve the stress, but eventually quit and took on several part-time jobs with Mion's help so he could buy Satoko a teddy bear for her birthday. In 1982, Satoshi's aunt was found murdered on the night of the Watanagashi festival, and Satoshi himself mysteriously disappeared a few days later, marking the fourth year of Oyashiro-sama's curse. Satoko struggled to be a strong girl in Satoshi's absence, and many of Satoshi's friends claimed he "moved on" to preserve Satoko's feelings.

A quiet and gentle person, Satoshi is generally calm and conflict-free.
Kind and caring. He genuinely cares for his younger sister, Satoko, and is willing to do anything to protect her.
Tendency to despair. Despite his outward calm, Satoshi is quite easily frustrated or depressed when faced with serious difficulties.
Problems with concentration. Friends describe him as someone who has difficulty focusing for long periods of time—in everyday life, he can appear absent-minded.
Inability to openly express feelings. Due to a difficult childhood (his mother's frequent remarriages, domestic violence), Satoshi matured early, but he has difficulty verbally expressing how he truly feels.
Determined to protect his loved ones. When it comes to Satoko's safety, Satoshi becomes very persistent and even aggressive in his actions. He kills his aunt with a bat to protect his sister from further violence.
One day, Dr. Irie met Satoshi, put him in his car, and on the way noticed that the boy was exhibiting symptoms of terminal Hinamizawa syndrome. He suffered from headaches, depression, and hallucinations: he believed someone was watching him and that the village was out to kill him. This could cause him to become aggressive and even attempt to rip out his own throat.
Irie took Satoshi to the Irie Clinic for an examination, after which he was kept in a secret underground section of the Irie Clinic under heavy sedation. He remained there while Irie and Miyo Takano tried to find a cure for the syndrome.
Kind and seemingly always calm, he is clearly very concerned about his little sister and therefore often gets upset and despairs.
Due to constant bullying and neglect from the rest of the village, Satoshi decided he was his sister's only support. But now, everyone in the village treats them well.
Now Satoshi is completely healthy, but he can’t fully recover
