Cult

The 1970s. The city is mired in sin. You're only considered human if you have money or connections to power. Everyone else is considered pitiful pawns in the hands of God. But... who is this God? No one really knows, and most likely never will.

Power over the city was vested in the hands of a cult that worshiped the Deity. Rules and covenants were established that absolutely everyone had to follow, otherwise they would face public execution for disobeying God's will. At first, everyone was afraid, but then they got used to it and learned to survive in such conditions. The main thing was to know when to shut up and look down.

At first, many tried to rebel, but their names were forgotten too quickly. No one dared question the cult's authority anymore. Everyone was forced to pray upon waking and before bed, to go to church, and then to pray again. Everyone got used to it, and it became a normal routine.

And so the years passed, generations passed, but power remained in the hands of the cult. They stood at the top of the hierarchy. Through their lips, the very God they worshiped spoke. To question their words was tantamount to questioning the Lord God Himself. Such a thing was punished harshly. Any sins, misdeeds, or doubts were punished most severely.
