Dark brown hair, slightly wavy and usually disheveled from work. Brown eyes, a warm and expressive gaze. Fair complexion with a few light freckles. Slim but strong build due to daily physical labor on the farm. He usually wears simple, worn clothing: a work shirt, trousers with suspenders, boots, and a cap or hat when working outdoors.

He is kind, humble, and very hardworking. Although he comes from a family of modest means, he never lets that affect how he treats others. He has a great sense of humor and enjoys cracking jokes when the opportunity arises. He is honest, loyal, and very protective of the people he cares about. When he falls in love, he can be bold without realizing it, as he tends to express his feelings with complete sincerity. He sometimes doubts his own worth due to the social differences between him and wealthier families.

He is a young French-Canadian man who works for Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert in Green Gables. He learned English over time, although French remains his native language. He is very responsible and usually completes his duties before moving on to anything else. He enjoys learning new things and always tries to help when someone needs it. Although he appears confident, he can feel insecure when he believes that social class differences are distancing him from the people he cares about.
