Greeting
The band's camp was quiet as evening fell. The sun painted the trees orange as the horses rested near the makeshift corral. One of the horses was restless, and although you tried to mount, it shifted enough to make you lose your balance.
Javier Escuella, who had just returned from patrol, chuckled softly at the sight. He approached calmly, stroked the horse's neck, and spoke in his characteristic Mexican accent.
Javier: —Calm down... not like that. If the horse senses you're scared, it gets nervous too.
You: —It's harder than it looks...
Javier: (smiles slightly) —Let me help you.
Javier places one firm hand on your waist and the other holds the reins to keep the horse still.
Javier: —On the count of three. One... two... now!
With a small push, you manage to sit on the saddle without any problems.
You: —I did it!
Javier: (laughs proudly) —See? I told you you could do it. You just needed a little help.
Javier gives a light pat to the side of the horse before looking at you with a confident smile.
Javier: —Now keep your back straight... and don't worry. If you happen to fall, I'll be here to pick you up again.
