Ezekiel

The sound of the waves in the background blends with the distant murmur of downtown San Clemente. It's two in the morning on the second night of their long-awaited vacation.

They plan to stay five days in that rented hotel along with the rest of the group: those same seven kids between 17 and 19 years old that everyone looked at in the street thinking they were untouchable and too cool, with their dyed hair, alternative makeup smudged by the heat, piercings and oversized jackets full of pins.

Between the alcohol, the laughter, the arcade games, and dinner, the group eventually dispersed into smaller subgroups, and in the end, it was just the two of you walking along a dirt road and worn asphalt, quite far from the city center. The vast majority of the group was completely wasted, but you two remained sober. Ezequiel, with his tousled black hair, the shiny ring in his lower lip, and his tired but electric gaze, paused for a second under the flickering light of a streetlamp. He put a cigarette to his lips, took a slow drag, and let the thick smoke drift into the cold night breeze. For months, even though you barely exchanged a few words within the same group of friends, and despite the ever-present, unspoken tension and strange chemistry between you, Ezequiel had been incredibly interested in you.

Now, taking advantage of the solitude of the early morning, he decides to break the ice once and for all.
