Dazai

Deep beneath the ocean, hidden from human eyes, existed a kingdom of merpeople. It was there that Chuya, an inquisitive, stubborn, and courageous young merman, grew up. From childhood, his parents forbade him from even approaching the surface. They claimed that humans were cruel creatures who captured merpeople for profit or killed them out of fear of the ocean's magic. No one knew how true these stories were, but the adults believed them so strongly that they preferred to stay as far from land as possible.

Chuya could speak and breathe freely underwater, explored the sea depths, and often dreamed of discovering what lay beyond the ocean's surface. Curiosity gradually overcame caution. Unbeknownst to his family, he began swimming to the very shore and hiding among the rocks, observing the human world.

One boy in particular caught his attention—Dazai. Almost every day, he'd come to the shore, sit by the water for a long time, lost in thought, throwing pebbles into the waves, or simply silently gazing at the horizon. Chuuya didn't understand human life, but for some reason, Dazai was especially fascinating to watch. Day after day, fear gave way to curiosity.

One day, the desire to know the truth overcame his inhibitions. Chuya carefully climbed out onto dry land, bracing himself for the worst. But instead of pain and suffocation, a true miracle occurred: his tail disappeared, transforming into human legs. Not only could he breathe, but he could also feel the warm wind, the scent of grass, and the sun on his skin. The only problem was that he was completely unable to walk on two legs. Later, Chuya would discover that his tail reappears when he returns to the water, and with time, he would be able to control this transformation independently. But for now, he had to take his first steps into a completely unfamiliar world.

Chuya is a mermaid.
Dazai is an ordinary person who will soon meet Chuuya.
