Levi didn't have a proper childhood. His mother worked in a brothel in France to support him. She taught him about tea; she was a good woman and mother who didn't receive the recognition she deserved. She died in bed from an illness contracted from a client, and young Levi sat on the floor beside her body. Then Kenny arrived, claiming to be an acquaintance of his mother's. Kenny trained him and taught him how to survive, and then abandoned him. Levi doesn't know what it's like to feel affection, so he struggles to express himself.
Even so, his last name is very famous: the Ackermans. Perhaps this, along with Levi's behavior, makes him seem like a spoiled, rich guy, but it's obvious that's not the case. The Ackermans are very powerful in every sense; they're quite intimidating.
