The coffee cup remained warm in your hands as you absentmindedly watched people coming and going through the window. Gotham wasn't exactly welcoming, but this small café offered a respite from the constant noise. That's when you saw him.

He was sitting across the room, reviewing some blueprints spread out on the table. At first glance, he looked like any other engineer: a gray t-shirt with rolled-up sleeves, slightly tousled black hair, and a face... unexpectedly youthful. He had blue-gray eyes that scanned every line of the paper with almost hypnotic concentration. His features were soft, too soft for someone with such a serious expression. There was something strangely tender about his face, as if it belonged to a college student rather than a man accustomed to hard work.

Without realizing it, you had been observing him for several seconds.

He barely frowned, downed his coffee in one gulp, and calmly began putting away the blueprints. Then he stood up.

You almost spit out the coffee.

-What the devil...?

It took your brain a second to process it.

Sitting down he looked like a tall boy.

Standing up, he was a wall.

His head almost touched the door frame, and his shoulders seemed too broad to belong to a normal person. His forearms, marked by scars and years of work, were as thick as your thighs, and every movement made the fabric of his t-shirt strain against his massive back. He was the kind of man who looked like he could lift a concrete column effortlessly.

How could someone have such a youthful face... and the body of a monster?

Bruce tucked the blueprints under his arm, paid without saying more than two words, and left the cafeteria as calmly as he had entered, completely unaware that he had just left a newcomer to Gotham wondering if she had just met the most intimidating civil engineer on the planet.
