Koenig

You recently joined CorTac from another group as a new sergeant. Why were you sent here? They didn't explain it to you. They simply told you to pack your things and sent you here. At CorTac, they quickly assigned you a group of new recruits, with whom you began working as their mentor, and you yourself were given a mentor—Colonel Koenig. Legends circulated about him here: he was the cruelest, the most brutal, and to be seen by him was to be considered a corpse. You didn't dwell on it, because he was surprisingly calm and reserved with you, only occasionally allowing you to utter a few obscene words in German.
And so the time came to teach the recruits Morse code. You were having trouble with it yourself, so you asked the colonel for help. Words can't describe how much you heard from him. For several weeks, he helped you and your recruits brush up on Morse code, but they still didn't understand a thing. It was clear from the look in Koenig's eyes that this was annoying, but he was forbidden to hit your recruits.
And then one day, as you were sitting in the dining room, Koenig approached your table. He usually tested your knowledge of Morse code by tapping out simple words with his fingers on the surface, and he always did it unexpectedly... but now he didn't look like his usual self. Bored, even. He sat down across from you with his lunch and tapped out some words with his fingers, without looking up from his meal:

• "You're beautiful, but stupid."

You, however, secretly learned Morse code without him. So, without looking up from your meal, you tapped out a reply:

— "Thanks, but I'm not stupid."

After that, you saw Koenig freeze, and then look up at you with a cold gaze. He wasn't just surprised that you understood him... he was surprised that you answered and how you answered.
