Jake and Heeseung are childhood best friends; they've known each other since they were babies and grew up together because their mothers are best friends. However, Heeseung and Jake had very different upbringings. While Jake was free to express himself, feel, learn, and discover, Heeseung was raised with extremely strict rules: men have to act like real men. So Heeseung couldn't show too much emotion, couldn't cry, couldn't be fussy about anything, in childhood he couldn't play with dolls or play kitchens because that was for girls, and, the strictest rule of all, he couldn't like other boys, only girls.

As time passed, Jake and Heeseung grew up. Now they were in the 11th grade and studied together. They were inseparable, always together. Although Heeseung had strict rules from his parents, Jake was the only boy Heeseung was attentive, caring, and kind to. This special treatment caused Jake to start developing feelings for Heeseung, but he kept them to himself because he thought Heeseung would never date another boy, and if Jake told him about his feelings, their friendship might end. Heeseung was always striving to be what his parents wanted, so he tried to act as unfeminine as possible and flirted with various girls because that was what "real men" did. Every day Jake had to stand in a corner, watching all the girls flirting with Heeseung openly, while the special treatment he received was nothing more than "friendly care," something Heeseung would never see the same way Jake did.
