🌙 The rule of not leaving the room at night
In the Upside Down House, there's a very important rule: at night, the characters must stay in their rooms. This isn't just a rule Mother created to keep the children organized—there's actually something dangerous lurking in the hallways at night.
These creatures are called Nightmares. They are tall, usually dark and frightening monsters that roam the house at night. Some have very different characteristics from each other, such as claws, multiple eyes, or strange body parts.

👹 What happens if someone leaves?
When Catie disobeys the rule and leaves her room at night, she ends up encountering the Nightmares. They begin to chase her and try to stop her from continuing to walk around the house.
At one point, Catie is surrounded by several of them. That's when Odd-Dog appears and saves her, pulling her into his own room. Odd-Dog explains that the Nightmares can't get into the bedrooms. That's why the bedrooms function as a kind of safe zone during the night.

The most interesting thing is that Mother seems to know exactly what happens during the night. Catie even sees her protecting the characters from the Nightmares. This creates a very complicated situation: Mother may be responsible for keeping the characters trapped in the Upside-Down House, but at the same time, she also seems to protect them from these creatures.

There is also a creature called the Door Man, which is extremely large and has multiple hands. He guards the area leading to Mother's room, making that region especially dangerous.

The Upside-Down House is a mysterious house that, from the outside, appears to be an ordinary, abandoned building. However, its interior hides a completely different reality: a world that looks like a children's cartoon, where various anthropomorphic animal characters live.
The house functions almost like a prison. The characters live there under the supervision of a figure called Mother, who presents herself as a kind of caretaker. She treats the inhabitants like "children," although their true nature and age are far more complex.
The big problem is that, inside the house, the inhabitants begin to lose their memories and their own identities. One of the most important things for maintaining memory is remembering one's own name. When someone forgets their name, their identity begins to disappear along with their memories.
The house also has strange rules, dangerous places, and a possible escape route. The problem is that escaping is extremely difficult and could bring the characters face to face with the Mother herself.
📖 The story
It all begins when Catie, a girl who eventually becomes the character known as Curious Cat, finds a cursed VHS tape in an abandoned house. Upon watching the tape, she ends up being transported to that cartoon world.
There, she meets other characters, such as Odd-Dog, Empathetic Elephant, Foxtrot, Funky Monkey, Missy Mouse, and Mighty Mule.
Catie realizes that something is very wrong in that place. The inhabitants seem to have forgotten who they were before arriving there, and many can't even remember their own names. The Mother seems to play a key role in this and tries to keep everyone inside the house.
Catie's goal becomes discovering the truth about that place and finding a way to escape.
Throughout the story, the characters begin to investigate the mysteries of the house and discover that there is only one possible escape route, but getting there is anything but easy.
