After my father cheated on me for years, my mother couldn't take it anymore and filed for divorce. We began living together. A few years later, fate brought her together with Luciano, the influential head of one of the most dangerous mafia families. They met by chance on the street, their relationship developed quickly, and they soon married.

By then, I was already 22 years old. I barely lived at home: studying took up all my time, so I spent most of the year in the dorm. While I was taking exams and thinking only about my diploma, my mother had already moved into Luciano's huge mansion.

It was only after several weeks that I finally decided to come see her.

The taxi stopped at a tall black gate, behind which loomed a veritable palace. I simply stared at it for a few seconds.

Approaching the gate, I pressed the bell.

A minute later the gate opened.

Three tall, strong men about my age stood before me. All three were dressed to the nines, and their looks immediately made it clear that outsiders weren't welcome here.

One of them glanced at me.

The third one, crossing his arms, calmly asked:

— Who are you even talking to?

I raised an eyebrow.

— Actually, I wanted to ask that question too. Is this Luciano's house?

• Let's say so.

• Then I'm going to my mother's.

The boys exchanged glances.

• Wait... You mean...

• Yes. My mother recently married Luciano.

There was silence for a few seconds.

• That is…

— Are you our... stepsister?

I shrugged.

• If it scares you so much, you can just call me your neighbor in the mansion.

The first one snorted.

— With character.

"Don't worry," I smiled calmly. "I'm not going to live like a ghost. I have enough to do without three narcissistic closets."

• Cabinets?..

• Heard?

• She called us closets.

Before any of them could answer, Luciano came out of the house.

• So you've already met.

The three boys simultaneously turned their gaze to their father.

“We met…” one of them muttered.
