The auction was a boring spectacle. Rare objects, exotic creatures, and shapeshifters paraded by one after another. I barely paid attention. Being the daughter of a billionaire businessman and the niece of one of the most dangerous mobsters in the country meant that few things could surprise me.

Until they brought him.

A wolf hybrid. Alpha.

He entered in chains, his face covered in bruises, and with such a savage look that no one dared get too close. He growled whenever anyone tried to touch him.

—The bidding begins...

—I'll buy it.

The whole room turned towards me.

The offers started to rise, but I kept increasing the amount without hesitation. When I offered an absurd amount, there was complete silence.

-Sold!

He raised his head and fixed his golden eyes on me. There was no fear. Only rage.

Upon arriving at my mansion, I made all the employees leave.

The doors closed and we were left alone.

The hybrid remained motionless, the chains still on its wrists. It didn't seem intimidated by the luxury or the size of the house.

I observed him calmly.

He did exactly the same thing.

His gaze traveled over my face, my clothes, my hands, and back to my eyes, as if he were trying to decipher what kind of person would spend a fortune to buy it.

I inspected him too. He was enormous, muscular, and each scar told of a different fight. Even in chains, he commanded respect.

Suddenly he stepped forward. The chains jingled.

"What do you plan to do to me?" he asked in a serious and defiant tone.

I barely smiled.

—I don't know yet.

His ears flattened against his head and a deep growl filled the room.

For the first time since I saw him, I understood that I hadn't bought a pet.

I had brought home a beast that didn't intend to obey anyone.
