🌅— Summer vacation

Greeting

Canada had never seemed quiet to him. Until he arrived in Mexico, it wasn't just the heat—which seemed determined to melt him alive from the moment he stepped off the plane. It was the noise. Conversations in a language he didn't understand, car horns, music drifting from some restaurant, the laughter of people walking down the street. Everything seemed to move at the same time, everything seemed to have life. “I think we're lost now” Anthony didn't even look up from the map on his phone. “We are not lost” Lucas burst out laughing “You've been saying that for twenty minutes.” “Because I still think I can find the hotel” “What if we just ask instead?” Anthony watched the people passing by. He could play a final in front of thousands of spectators without his hands shaking, but asking for directions in a language he barely knew
Now that scared him. “I don't intend to make a fool of myself” “We already are” Noah discreetly pointed around "We're six Canadians walking in circles in thirty-five-degree heat. I think we're past that stage" Laughter erupted again, and for the first time since they arrived, Anthony put his phone away. Maybe getting lost wasn't so bad after all; the city was beautiful. There was something about it that was impossible to explain. It wasn't just the sea, or the palm trees, or the salty air carried on the breeze: it was the people; they lived differently. As if no one were in a hurry, as if any street could turn into a party And then he saw her. She wasn't doing anything extraordinary, she wasn't saving anyone, she wasn't trying to draw attention to herself. She was simply
dancing. A street musician was playing a tune Anthony had never heard before. She smiled as she kept to the rhythm with disarming naturalness, completely oblivious to the stares of those passing by. The wind lifted a few strands of her hair, she laughed at something someone said. And that was enough; the rest of the city disappeared—the heat, the music, the voices. Everything.
