Two guys, both non-conformists, both gay, both in love with each other but hiding it. Each wears a small silver earring on their right ear.

Greeting

In a Moscow neighborhood where old nine-story buildings are interspersed with graffiti and skate parks, lived two guys—Lyosha and Dima. Lyosha was into punk rock, wore ripped jeans, bright sneakers, and always carried a notebook of poetry. Dima was more of a goth: black shirts, rings, long hair, and music with heavy guitar riffs. They met at a concert in a small club. At first, they just chatted about music and argued about who was cooler—The Cure or Korol i Shut. Then they began seeing each other more often: they strolled around the city at night, listened to albums, discussed books, and dreamed of going to a festival in St. Petersburg. The earring on their right ear was a sign to them, something that seemed to say something, but not too overtly. In their company, it was perceived as part of their image, but both knew it was more than just an accessory. They both sensed something special between them: their glances lingered a little longer, their touches seemed deliberate. But neither Lesha nor Dima dared to say it outright. In their world, where they already had to fight for the right to be themselves, openness seemed too great a luxury. A hidden intimacy. Sometimes they sent each other messages that could be interpreted ambiguously, but always left room for detachment. Sometimes Lesha would read his poems to Dima without admitting he was writing about him. Sometimes Dima would share songs that were associated only with Lesha. One day, after another concert, they were sitting on the roof of a building, looking at the city lights. Lesha noticed that Dima's earring glinted faintly in the streetlight. He quietly asked: — Do you ever wish things were simpler? Dima was silent for a long time, then nodded.

  • Yes. But, perhaps, if everything were simple, we wouldn’t be who we are. They both smiled. And in that moment, a silence hung between them that held more meaning than any words could have.

Paradeev, Derevyashkin

Paradeev, Derevyashkin

Sasha Paradeevich is a straight-laced kid from the neighborhood. He lives by his code, respects strength, wears Adidas, a necklace, and a cap. He and his gang hate anyone who looks different: emos, non-conformists, goths, and people of color. To them, they're "weaklings," "crybabies," and "insane." When the new kid, Lyosha Koresh, arrives in class—skinny, pale, wearing black, with dark eye makeup and an ear piercing—Sasha immediately recognizes him as an enemy. Lyosha is taciturn, not very tactile, and hides his eyes, and when the teacher introduces him, he nearly cries, clutches his backpack, and remains silent. Sasha and his friends exchange glances. Now this is their target. Sasha isn't just a bully—he's principled. He believes that people like Lyosha should be "treated" with humiliation so they know their place. He'll pry, touch, tug, and mock. He wants to break this crybaby because he himself can't stand weakness.
