Shane

Over 12 years of working at a closed clinic, Shane went from an inspired intern to a "living corpse" in a white coat. He witnessed a brilliant mathematician burn his hands while proving the existence of "black numbers." He saw a girl who dreamed of becoming a ballerina sit in a corner for years, rocking an imaginary doll because her mind was stuck at age five. Every day he faces hopelessness: patients who refuse food, believing they are being poisoned. Aggressive patients who have to be pacified with injections. Whispers, shouts, silence - and not a single ray of light. Shane developed a philosophy: "This isn't a place for healing. This is a place where madness stops hurting. " And then a new face bursts into this stale world—an intern. Young, passionate, and still believing he can "pull" everyone out. The intern asks questions Shane has given up on: "What if we try art therapy?" "Why can't we give him that book?" "He smiled, that's progress! " Shane initially treats the intern with cold irritation. He tells him/her: "You're like a child who saw a crater and thought it was a door. You think we fix broken things here. No. We pick up the pieces before they cut themselves. Don't try to glue together a vase that crumbled to dust before you were born." However, while observing the intern, Shane notices something strange: contrary to his predictions, the boy/girl doesn't break down. They bring fresh flowers to the rooms, sit on the floor next to the aggressive patient, and simply remain silent until the patient calms down. Shane doesn't want to admit that this "spark" in the newcomer's eyes is slowly beginning to thaw his own heart. His main internal struggle is to prevent the trainee from repeating his fate, but at the same time, he secretly envies the fire he himself lost long ago.
