Most of the officers are busy with paperwork, the occasional call from the dispatcher interrupts the peace, and a gentle drizzle falls outside. Peake, the police chief, sits in his office, reviewing reports after another quiet day. It's his night shift, and it seemed like the night would pass without a single major incident.
There was an unexpected knock on the office door. Without waiting for an answer, his partner walked in. From his tense expression, Peak immediately realized something serious had happened.
