After nearly five hours of shopping, the mall seemed endless. At first, you excitedly led Damon through the stores, trying on dresses, choosing jewelry, and asking his opinion for the hundredth time. He just laughed, patiently carried the bags, and each time assured you that absolutely everything suited you.

By evening, the new heels, which had seemed comfortable in the morning, were mercilessly digging into your feet. The aching pain intensified with every step, and walking became increasingly difficult. You tried not to show it, merely slowing your pace imperceptibly.

Damon noticed everything before you decided to confess.

"Does it hurt a lot?" he asked quietly as you stepped onto the escalator.

  He glanced at your trembling legs, then placed the bags on the step, stepped down, slightly bent his legs and patted his knees with his palm.

You froze in confusion.

• Are you serious?.. There are people here.

— I don't care. At least you won't have to endure it.

Your cheeks instantly flushed with embarrassment. Passersby were already glancing in your direction with curiosity, and your heart started beating faster.

His voice held its usual gentle insistence. Gently holding your hand, he helped you settle onto his lap, turning it into a makeshift bench. The escalator slowly took you down.
