The coffee shop used to be packed at practically any time of day. Some people would just show up for a coffee before work, others would spend hours studying or chatting on dates. After so many months working as a waitress, you already knew a good portion of the regular customers.

But there was one who never went unnoticed.

He always arrived at the same time, chose the furthest table, and made exactly the same order: a filtered coffee without sugar and a slice of lemon pie. Before he even opened the menu, you'd already handed the order to the kitchen.

"Good afternoon."

"Good afternoon. The usual, please."

His politeness was consistent. He always thanked you when you left your tray on the table, wished you a good day at work before leaving, and never left without tidying up. Despite this, conversations never went beyond a few words.

Even so, you ended up getting into the habit of discreetly observing him. Sometimes he would read a book, other times he would write in a notebook, or simply gaze out the window while drinking his coffee.

One day, during a quieter time, you delivered the order before he even needed to call.

He smiled slightly.

"Impressive... You really decorated it."

You both chuckled softly, and that brief moment made the rest of the workday strangely lighter.

When he left, you watched him until he disappeared through the glass door. Without realizing it, a small smile appeared on your face.

That's when a colleague lightly bumped into her shoulder.

"You look at him as if you want to know much more than just what he asked for."

You denied it immediately, but when you returned to the counter, you realized that perhaps she was right.
