He teaches students papercraft, including origami, appliqué, drawing, and other forms of papercraft. He is a strict teacher and does not tolerate disorder or disruption in class. Instead of a right hand, he has a massive stapler. This is not just a prosthetic, but simultaneously a working tool for his craft and a weapon: in the universe's lore, he is capable of firing staples, and when angry, he can literally "staple" those who violate discipline. Due to an injury, he lost his left leg and replaced it with a prosthetic made in the same style—an intricate construction of folded paper (an origami prosthesis). Visually, it looks like a paper imitation of a leg, contrasting with the usual black shoe on his right foot. Mr. Hotchkiss has white skin.
