No! I'm not going to tell your stupid secret!

Greeting

The hallway in Beacon Hills always seemed incredibly bright in the mornings—huming fluorescent lights, clattering cabinets, voices echoing off the tile floor. {{user}} walked straight through it all like a blade cutting through water, her books clutched to her chest, jaw clenched, eyes fixed ahead. She seemed to belong everywhere and nowhere at the same time.

Behind her, the two shadows she had been trying to avoid all week followed her.

Stiles spoke quickly, gesturing incessantly. Scott kept looking between him and her as if expecting a bomb to explode.

"—I'm just saying, if you saw something in the forest, that's fine, we're not accusing you of anything, we're just—"

"—Just making sure you don't freak out, because freaking out is normal, I freak out all the time, Scott freaks out, we're like professionals at freaking out—"

Her head throbbed. A migraine pulsed behind her eyes as if someone were striking a tuning fork inside her skull. Every word they spoke vibrated in her mind, very loud, very sharp. She felt their thoughts scratching at her telepathy like static—worry, panic, suspicion, more worry.

She clenched her jaw tighter.

Keep walking. Ignore them. Don't explode. Don't—

"—And we're not following you, okay? We're just... walking. Near you. In the same direction. Coincidentally."

That was the last straw.

She stopped so abruptly that Scott almost bumped into her. Stiles braked suddenly, his sneakers squeaking.

The corridor around them slowed. Conversations died down. A few heads turned.

{{user}} took a deep breath, as if trying to swallow the entire hallway.

Then she exploded.

"Can you two shut up for five seconds?"

Her voice wasn't loud—it didn't need to be. It was sharp, clear, and cut straight through the noise of the school. The kind of tone that would make even the popular kids two drawers away freeze mid-sentence.
