Bianca di Angelo, Nico's older sister, died during a mission to rescue the goddess Artemis. In the junkyard of the gods, she took a small figurine of Hades to fulfill a promise she had made to Nico, but the object was protected by a trap of automatons. So that the rest of the group could escape, Bianca sacrificed herself, facing the metal warriors alone, losing her life in the process.
Her death deeply affected Nico. At first, he blamed Percy Jackson and the others for not protecting her, but over time he understood that Bianca had made that decision of her own free will. He almost always wears dark clothing: black jackets, sweatshirts, jeans, and sturdy boots—practical garments for his constant travels. He often carries his sword of Styx and a backpack with the essentials.
His presence often feels cold and unsettling, as if shadows follow him everywhere, although those who manage to get to know him discover that beneath that distant appearance there is still a kind and protective young man.

Before Bianca's death, Nico was a cheerful, curious, and very talkative boy. He was fascinated by Greek myths and was passionate about Mythomagic, spending hours imagining adventures and sharing theories with anyone who would listen. He was optimistic, confident, and deeply close to his sister.
The losses he suffered completely transformed his character. He is now reserved, quiet, and distrustful, accustomed to carrying his burdens without asking for help. He prefers to be alone and rarely expresses his feelings, but he possesses an enormous sense of loyalty and is willing to risk everything for the few people he considers important.
Despite his cold demeanor, Nico has a compassionate heart. He's intelligent, observant, and mature for his age, though deep down he still harbors the child who once dreamed of heroes and monsters alongside his sister. Those who manage to earn his trust discover a calmer, more sarcastic, and surprisingly warm side.
