niece Mirabelle Madrigal: When Mirabelle was little, Bruno began to keep to himself and barely interacted with her. Despite this, it's clear that Bruno cares deeply for her. An example of this is when, after Mirabelle failed to receive her gift, Bruno peered into the future and saw the house crumbling, the magic disappearing, and Mirabelle at the center of it all. By this point, he had become accustomed to people assuming the worst, and fearing that Mirabelle would be blamed for the destruction of magic and despised, Bruno kept his vision to himself and decided to disappear to avoid having to tell anyone what he had seen. Another example is saving Mirabelle from falling into a hole in the floor (behind the house) after initially attempting to escape. He also agreed to help her save magic by receiving another vision, despite initially being reluctant to do so, and confronted his mother to protect Mirabelle, though Alma and Mirabelle had reconciled by that point.

sisters Juliet and Pepa Madrigal: Bruno's relationship with his sisters as children is unknown. But it's clear that his relationship with Pepa became strained when he joked that it looked like a thunderstorm might hit on their wedding day. This unfortunate prank upset Pepa, and since her emotions control the weather, they caused a hurricane, which resulted in her and Felix's wedding day not being as happy as Pepa had hoped. Despite this, when Bruno sees his sisters for the first time in ten years, they immediately embrace him. He apologizes to Pepa and Felix for ruining their wedding and assures Pepa that he never meant for his prank to get out of hand and upset her. Juliet, meanwhile, never held any ill will or resentment towards Bruno and is much more enthusiastic about welcoming him back than Pepa, though the latter eventually forgives him.

Mother Alma Madrigal: Bruno's relationship with his mother while growing up remains unknown. As he grew older, he became an outcast within his family and community due to his precognitive abilities, and his relationship with her became strained, if not hostile. However, Alma eventually approached Bruno, asking him to observe and tell her what had happened to the magic after Mirabelle failed to receive her magical gift (as was expected of the rest of the family). However, after peering into the future, he decided to tell no one of his vision and disappear, hiding within the walls of the house. When he briefly emerged from hiding to help Mirabelle, he decided to return to the wall out of fear that Alma might see him. When he confronts Alma at the end of the film in an attempt to protect Mirabelle, Bruno stated that he doesn't care what Alma thinks of him, but is genuinely surprised when Alma greets him with a hug and a kiss on the cheek.

Bruno urged Mirabel to find Isabela and make peace with her, telling her she was exactly what their family needed. He then returned to the walls, afraid that Alma might discover him. Before doing so, however, he invited Mirabel to visit him, and Mirabel, in turn, promised that after she saved the miracle, she would definitely visit him.

Later that day, the Casita began to collapse after Mirabelle and Alma had an argument. As the house collapsed, Bruno ran through the walls, grabbing his pet rats. He then put a bucket on his head and rammed the nearest wall, landing on the lawn behind the house.

After Casita collapsed, Bruno found a horse and rode out of the valley to find Mirabelle, who was running away in guilt, grief, and sorrow. He found her with Alma by the river and rode up to them, shouting that none of what had happened was Mirabelle's fault. He claimed he was the one who gave Mirabelle the vision and that she was only trying to help. He insisted he didn't care what his mother thought of him, only to be suddenly embraced by Alma, who called him "Brunito" and kissed him on the cheek, leaving him confused.

When Bruno, Mirabelle, and Alma returned to the ruins of the house, Alma ordered Bruno to reunite with his sisters, who immediately embraced him. He then launched into a string of apologies, including apologizing for Pepa's wedding and encouraging her to express her emotions freely. His sisters and Agustin stopped him and expressed their joy at being home. Later, Bruno helped with the restoration of Casita and advised Mirabelle to place the final detail, the doorknob, on the front door. Afterward, the magic returned to Casita, and Bruno, along with everyone else present, was drawn into the courtyard for the celebration. Bruno joined his family for a family photo.

Eventually, Bruno was discovered within the walls by Mirabelle, who pursued him throughout the house. He initially fled her, but returned when he heard her calling for help, catching her before she fell into a pit. He himself fell into the pit, only to discover it wasn't very deep. Mirabelle asked Bruno to explain his vision to her, following him back to the room he occupied next to the kitchen and dining room. During his time hiding there, he had amassed a collection of odds and ends, as well as several pet rats, which he used for entertainment, training them to act out scenes reminiscent of telenovelas. Mirabelle convinced Bruno to explain his vision, but Bruno initially refused to help Mirabelle further when she asked him for another vision. She persuaded him to agree when Antonio, with the help of rats he could speak to, also discovered them and offered Bruno his room for the ritual.

Bruno accompanied Mirabelle to Antonio's room, where he had cast a sand circle as part of his ritual. The house continued to shake around them, prompting Mirabelle to hurry Bruno, but Bruno insisted they couldn't rush the future. Once the ritual circle was cast, Bruno warned Mirabelle that she might not like what she saw and expressed concern that she would blame him for causing the future. She assured him she didn't think he had caused the future. Antonio offered Bruno his stuffed animal to calm him down, and Bruno, relaxed, began his vision. Initially, the vision followed the same path as before, and Bruno wanted to leave, but Mirabelle insisted on continuing. She saw a golden butterfly and pointed to it. She and Bruno followed him, leading to a vision of the candle glowing brighter and Mirabelle embracing a shadowy figure. The image cleared to reveal Isabela, and the vision ended, leaving a glass tablet with the vision engraved on it. Bruno was delighted to see a positive image of Mirabelle and Isabela.

Several years later, after his niece Mirabelle failed to open her door to receive her magical gift, Alma asked Bruno to peer into the future to try to figure out what was happening, as nothing like this had ever happened before. When Bruno had a vision, he saw Mirabelle standing before a broken Casita, but the vision also showed her standing before her unharmed. Bruno thought this might mean she would either save Casita or destroy her. However, knowing the reputation his visions had, he was certain the entire family would believe she was destined to destroy Casita. To prevent Mirabelle from being shunned as he had been, Bruno decided to leave the family. However, he loved them too much to truly leave, so he remained hidden within the walls of the house for ten years. He spent most of his time there, mending cracks as they appeared.

Bruno, along with his two sisters, Pepa and Juliet, was born to Alma and Pedro Madrigal 50 years before the events of the film. When he was born, their home was raided, and his family was forced to flee. While attempting to cross a river, his father was killed by pursuers. His grief-stricken mother prayed for a miracle, which was immediately granted in the form of a magic candle that blessed the family with an enchanted house (Casita) and protection from raiders (in the form of high mountains). Five years later, Bruno, like his sisters, opened his own magical doors in the house, receiving his magical gift—the ability to see the future. However, he usually saw only bad things, and since his visions always came true, this led to him being ostracized. Consequently, he began to avoid contact with society and his family. At one point, he allegedly had visions of a villager's goldfish dying, a man developing a belly, and the local priest losing all his hair. He also attended his sister Pepa's wedding to her future husband, Felix, and tried to lighten the mood with an unfortunate joke about the bad weather at the wedding. Pepa, in turn, took this as a vision, and her anxiety caused her powers to conjure a hurricane on a previously perfectly sunny day. Although Bruno remained distant from his family due to his bad reputation, he had some influence on Isabela and Dolores's youth. He had visions of the former finding a prosperous life, her powers growing, and the latter's true love belonging to another. Over time, the pressure on Isabela from Alma to live up to expectations of perfection increased, and Dolores grew to believe she could never be with the man she loved.

Bruno was gifted with the power of precognition and is therefore able to see the future. Bruno states that he requires a large, open space to properly see his visions, initiating these spaces by casting a circle of sand and burning leaves. After initiating, his irises glow bright green, and the circle of sand creates a dome (also made of sand). Glowing visions, mostly green, are visible within the dome of shifting sand. Focusing on a specific part of the vision makes the image clearer and more distinct. If someone else is in the circle, they will also be able to see the visions and can help Bruno focus on specific parts. When the visions end, Bruno creates a thick slab of emerald-green glass that contains the final result of the vision. If a vision suggests two different outcomes, the created glass slab displays both options when tilted at different angles.

Bruno is an introverted, nervous man who tries to cope with his anxiety by performing superstitious rituals such as knocking on wood and throwing salt over his shoulder. He is also a silly man who enjoys acting and starring in "telenovelas" and encourages his family members to express themselves rather than bottle up their emotions. He loves his family very much and is willing to sacrifice his place in it to protect his youngest niece, Mirabel. He sometimes faces things he is afraid of by assuming fictional characters such as "Hernando", who is not afraid of anything, and "Jorge", who makes putty.

Bruno was absent from his family for ten years within the walls of Casita. He believes that his ability to see the future can cause harm to people, as if it were a curse on them rather than a prophecy. This was also the reason for his departure from his family (and it also caused him to become more eccentric). Not much is known about him due to his disappearance before the established timeline of the film, but it is known that whenever he had any kind of prophecy, he would unintentionally anger the people around him. Over time, Bruno began to withdraw from society and eventually his family, so as not to harm anyone. His gift made him paranoid. Bruno was afraid of his surroundings, and he developed a sand-based ritual to help focus and control his power.

Although Bruno has been hidden from his family for many years, he still shows affection and protectiveness towards them. For example, saving Mirabelle from falling after trying to escape from her. He quickly becomes attached to her and, after Mirabelle's coaxing and Antonio's encouragement, helps her with a problem she has by predicting her future. He also tries to protect Mirabelle from his mother's judgment after the house collapses.

Bruno is a middle-aged man of relatively short stature (compared to his sisters). He has pale skin, swamp-colored eyes, and dirty, curly, graying black hair. He has large bags under his eyes. The irises of his eyes glow bright green when he uses his gift. He usually wears a reddish-brown shirt with cuffs at the elbows and dark pants. Over this, he wears a green poncho with a hood that has dark green hourglass patterns on it, symbolizing his magical gift. His clothes are noticeably worn: the poncho has rough edges and the collar of his shirt is unbuttoned and hanging loosely, giving him a shabby, unkempt appearance. Bruno is often seen in the company of numerous rats, which sometimes hide on his shoulders or in his poncho.
