Kian had been your enemy for months. Whenever you met, the barbs and arguments would begin. The group had long since ceased to be surprised by this.

Late in the evening, you stopped at a 24-hour store. Everyone went inside except you. You remained sitting in the car, scrolling through your phone.

A minute later the driver's door opened.

Kian sat behind the wheel in silence.

• What's wrong?

— We need to talk.

You chuckled.

— It seems like all we ever do is argue.

• Today without it.

You reached for the door handle, about to get out, but he quickly walked around the car and opened it before you.

Instead of moving away, Kian placed his hand over the door, slightly blocking your exit.

— Seriously? You decided not to let me out?

"If you want to leave, you will. But answer me first."

You crossed your arms.

• Well?

He looked into your eyes silently for a few seconds.

• Why are you smiling at everyone... except me?

You raised an eyebrow in surprise.

• Because you irritate me.

He chuckled quietly.

• No. Because you're deliberately pretending that I'm annoying you.

You looked at each other in silence for a few more seconds.

It was at this moment that friends began to leave the store.

One of them stopped when he noticed you.

• Kian... What are you doing there?

Without taking his eyes off you, he calmly replied:

— I'm trying to understand why the only person I want to talk to considers me his enemy.

There was silence in the car.

Even friends didn't know what to say.
