weaknesses
Staff: Alastor's power primarily comes from his staff. His staff was broken by Adam in "The Show Must Go On," weakening his powers. Alastor asks Rosie to repair it in "The Deal." In the same episode, it is revealed that whenever he tried to use some of his spells against Triple B, they failed. As part of a new deal, Rosie agrees to repair his staff in "Last Call" if he helps save Pentagram City from the Lilith Might explosion.
Unique abilities
Demonic Magic: Alastor can use magic due to his high level of power.[33] In the pilot episode, this takes the form of glowing red symbols, reminiscent of voodoo veve (loa symbols), that levitate around him. Alastor is also shown using blood magic, clenching his fist until drops of blood fall from it, to defeat Sir Pentious.
Umbrakinesis or Darkness Manipulation: Alastor can summon and manipulate shadows, forcing them to do his bidding.
Spatial Warping: Alastor can move using his shadow. This was first demonstrated when he teleported behind Charlie and Vaggie after they first entered the hotel.
Portal Creation: Alastor can move and easily transport others through the portals he creates. This is demonstrated when he pulls Niffty out of the fireplace. During the fight with Sir Pentious, Alastor summons the tentacles of a massive monster to attack the airship.
Supernatural Control: Alastor has shown instances of possessing the ability to cause red glowing symbols associated with blood magic to float around him.
Pyrokinesis: Alastor summons a fireball to distract Charlie as he pushes Vaggie away before starting a song.
Object Creation: Alastor creates a new fireplace for the hotel, from which he summons Niffty and causes Husk to suddenly teleport to him from Husk's casino, the Jackpot Hotel. Alastor also creates a bottle of cheap alcohol for Husk.
Photokinesis: During his introduction, he can project a glowing red light onto both his eyes and his microphone.
Equipment Change: Alastor is able to change the outfits of his targets, as well as his own, with a snap of his finger, without having to do it manually.
Skills
Bilingualism: Alastor can speak English fluently and some French.
Cooking: Alastor hints at his ability to create amazing dishes at the end of the pilot after mentioning that he admired his mother's cooking, especially her jambalaya.
Musical talent: Alastor displays an amazing vocal range and flexible vocal range. He is also known to play many types of musical instruments.
Dancing: Alastor is an excellent dancer, as shown in the pilot when he performs a dance routine well with Charlie in his performance.
Broadcasting: Even before his death, Alastor worked as a radio host, thanks to which he has an amazing diction and is able to captivate the audience with his radio broadcasts, subsequently earning himself the nickname "Radio Demon".
Flexibility: Alastor can assume numerous unnatural poses without damaging his joints.
Deal-Making: In the pilot episode, Alastor is revealed to be a deal-making demon, offering Charlie a deal in exchange for his help with the hotel, which she wisely declines. Deal-making demons like Alastor can increase their power by trading souls, a very powerful commodity in Hell. As such, they are considered highly manipulative and should not be played with. Deal-making is not something every demon can do, so it should not be taken lightly, as it usually does not work out well for the other party.[32]
High Intelligence: Alastor is shown to be quite a cunning demon, becoming one of the most powerful Lords of Hell through his tricks and skill at making deals, despite the well-known fact that such deals never lead to anything good. He always strategizes and thinks ahead before executing his plans.
Capabilities
Immortality: As a Sinner, Alastor is biologically immortal, as he cannot die from disease or other natural causes, and he cannot age, remaining the same age as when he died. He cannot die from any damage to his body and will recover from any injury, but he can only be permanently killed by an angelic weapon.
Demonic Transformation: Alastor has a common trait that is common to any inhabitant of Hell. He can summon and exit his demonic form at will.
Demonic Form: Alastor grows very large horns, increases in size to about 4 or 4.5 meters, and the pupils of his eyes turn into the needles of an old-fashioned dial on a radio.
Character
In life, Alastor was aware of his own horrific and grotesque murders, leading him to believe he would go to Hell. But instead of fearing this, he performed a ritual to contact Rosie and make a deal to become the most powerful sinner and escape his suffering. When he was killed the day after making the deal, Alastor was outraged by the memory of his miserable death and was forced to become Rosie's slave, faithfully following her orders, which left him greatly disillusioned by the limitations of his powers.
Although he's reluctant to truly help out at the hotel, Alastor occasionally shows concern for the residents and has grown fond of some of them. In particular, he's become close to Niffty and defends her from Valentino's murder.
After his defeat by Adam, Alastor remained indifferent to Charlie's pleas for help at the Hotel due to his disappointment and humiliation, as well as Lucifer and Rosie's ridicule.
Alastor is a cold and manipulative man who seizes every opportunity to make a bigger move later. To free himself from his deal with Rosie, he cleverly tricks Vox, making himself his prisoner in exchange for never touching Charlie. During his captivity, Alastor gradually manipulates Vox to inflate his ego, distance himself from Triple B, and ultimately use him as leverage to free himself from Rosie and break their agreement when Vox touches Charlie's shoulders. Once freed, he convinces Rosie to repair his staff in exchange for helping him destroy Lilith's Might.
Character
Alastor has a strange sense of morality, described as "abnormal"[26] and has been noted to be quite sadistic, even cannibalistic, devouring lesser demons or those who have incurred his wrath. Despite this, Alastor is close friends with other cannibals of Hell, including the inhabitants of Cannibal City.
He is noted to be narcissistic, but this does not make him reckless. Despite his immense strength, Alastor knows that there are other demons and beings who can surpass him, such as other Overlords. For this reason, he is wary of such demons, as they could harm him if he is not careful.[27]
He sincerely wants to help Charlie run the Happiness Hotel, albeit for his own amusement, but he hopes the project fails. Alastor finds the very idea of redemption laughable, yet he fulfills his role as promised. He views Charlie's efforts as nothing more than a fun distraction from decades of boredom.
Alastor speaks with a transatlantic accent, often using bizarre anachronisms like "picture show" and calling Charlie a "charming little demon."
Although he always presents a confident and cheerful demeanor, he has a vulnerable side that emerges when he's reminded of his "chained-up" state. His façade of confidence crumbles, and he succumbs to a panic attack.
According to Mimzy, when Alastor was alive, he would turn into a "kitten" if he drank enough rye whiskey while listening to jazz music. According to Vivziepop, Alastor might just be "a bit of an asshole."
Character
Alastor's character in the animated series was portrayed as a charismatic, vintage radio announcer with a perpetual smile. He is extremely polite and charming, readily making concessions to achieve his own goals, and, thanks to his charm and stunning diction, skillfully gains the trust of other demons. He initially appears to be a good-natured and cheerful creature.
Alastor is a sadist: he gleefully spoke of the Great Depression in America and the large number of orphans whose suffering he clearly enjoyed. He will not hesitate to use physical force when others fail to act in accordance with his particular values or expectations. But despite his love of suffering and the constant failures of children and adults, for unknown reasons, he is incapable of seriously injuring or killing a child. Moreover, if he encounters a child on the side of the road, he will likely take care of them. As revealed in the official prequel comic, he despises Vox. The comic also showed that Alastor has a positive side, as he defended a weak sheep-like demon from an attack by a butcher who wanted to butcher it. Judging by Vaggie's story, he is very cruel and purposeful, since almost immediately after his appearance in hell, he overthrew almost all the rulers who had been sitting for many centuries, becoming one of the most powerful demons in hell: Alastor easily deals with Sir Pentious, who suddenly appeared.
Overall, Alastor is described as a dualistic person. He highly values good manners, friendliness, and intelligence in others and will look down on those who don't meet his standards. However, he bends these rules and adapts them to his own needs. Unhappy people seem weak to him.
Full demonic form
When Alastor assumes his full demonic form, his body grows larger, his limbs elongate, his neck develops extra muscles, and his horns grow larger. In one scene in "Daddy Fighting," Alastor develops two rows of horns on his head. His eyes' whites turn black, and his pupils take the shape of radio dials. Seams appear on his suit and the edges of his mouth, and the tips of his boots split open to form hooves.
Human (In life, before becoming a demon)
As a human, Alastor had slightly tanned skin, curly dark brown hair, and brown eyes, which he concealed behind small, oval glasses with black frames. He wore a white shirt, a red striped vest with small gold buttons, a red tie with a gold clasp, brownish-black trousers, and white shoes with black toes and heels.
Appearance
Alastor has a thin build, pale gray skin, sharp yellow teeth, black gums, and short scarlet hair/fur with black tips, with deer ears visible on the sides of his head.[23] He has a small cross on his forehead, which can only be seen during his victory over Sir Pentious, as it is constantly obscured by his bangs. He has small deer antlers on his head. He has dark red eyeballs, scarlet irises, black pupils, and crimson eyelids. Alastor wears an oval monocle with a dark red lens and black frames over his right eye.
Alastor is about the same height as Vox, which is about 7 feet (approximately 213 cm).[24]
Alastor wears a red, high-collared shirt with a black cross on the chest, and over it a single-breasted, ruby-colored frock coat with a thin scarlet stripe, which is torn at the hem, also maroon trousers with a scarlet border, a black bow tie with a scarlet neck, black gloves with bright scarlet markings on the tips and knuckles, and black shoes with a cutout in the shape of a deer track on the feet.
Alastor also carries a vintage-style microphone with him at all times, which has a mind of its own and is part of his demonic appearance. Everything he says into this microphone is broadcast live on the radio.
During a battle with Adam in "The Show Must Go On," his microphone was broken and he suffered a permanent wound to his chest. Both his staff and the wound were stitched together with green stitches he created himself.
