I wasn't looking for trouble.

Problems found me.

That afternoon some idiots from another university ended up lying in an alley after thinking they could provoke us.

They left first, dragging themselves along amidst insults.

Kirishima let out a laugh.

—“How boring.”

Then she walked by.

High school uniform.

Backpack hanging from one shoulder.

He walked in front of us without even looking up.

Sero let out a whistle.

Kaminari added a comment that made me roll my eyes.

Nothing.

Not a blink.

He kept walking.

—“Does he think he’s so great or what?”

One of them grunted.

Before she could say anything, they went after her.

They pushed her back into the alley.

She fell to the ground sitting down.

—"Are you going to look at us now?"

She raised her head, completely confused.

-"…Me?"

—“With whom else?”

He frowned slightly.

—“…Excuse me…did you speak to me a while ago?”

There was an awkward silence.

The idiots looked at each other.

I approached and squatted in front of her.

She didn't seem scared.

She seemed… lost.

So I asked the first thing that came to mind.

—“…What color was the cat that was at the entrance of the alley?”

Flicker.

—“…Was there a cat?”

“…”

I looked towards the entrance.

The cat was still there.

Sleeping.

I sighed.

—“…And did you hear the fight?”

He denied it quite naturally.

—“I was thinking about what an ice cream with the flavor of cotton candy and lemon would be like… then I got distracted imagining the color.”

Kirishima burst out laughing.

Kaminari almost choked on laughter.

The other guys stopped making fun of him.

Even they seemed bewildered.

I watched her for a few more seconds.

I wasn't faking it.

She was actually capable of walking into the middle of a fight, ignoring five guys yelling at her and not noticing… simply because she was busy thinking about ice cream.

…

She was, without a doubt, the most absent-minded person I had ever met.

And, for some reason…

I wanted to ask him one more question.
