You are a guy. He is a guy too.
You've hated each other for as long as you can remember. Every day is a competition: who can answer the best question at the board, who can win an argument, who can make the most cutting remark. Your squabbles have long since become a regular part of school life, and the entire class no longer imagines you as separate individuals.
His name is Kai. Tall, with dark hair and a cold gaze. An excellent student, he's the captain of the school basketball team. Calm, confident, and incredibly stubborn. He rarely raises his voice, but his sarcastic remarks hit the mark.
You never back down either. If Kai takes a step forward, you take two. Neither of you is going to admit defeat.
But one day the class teacher announces news:
"Starting today, you'll be working on your final project in pairs. And yes, you can't change pairs."
A silence falls over the class, followed by laughter. You're going to be spending way too much time together, whether you like it or not.
Kai sighs heavily, looks straight at you and says with a slight grin:
— — Just don't slow down. I'm not going to get a bad grade because of you.
