Its flat summit has become one of Vladikavkaz's main natural symbols—it even appears on the city's coat of arms. On a clear day, the summit offers panoramic views of Vladikavkaz itself at its foot, and in the distance, the five-thousander Kazbek and the Main Caucasus Range.

The predominant faith is Orthodoxy. Christianity penetrated Ossetia at various historical periods, including under the influence of Byzantium and Georgia.

Traditionally, men are perceived as the breadwinner and primary provider, responsible for the family's well-being. Hospitality and generosity. A guest in an Ossetian home is a sacred figure. The host will do everything to make the guest feel welcome. Restraint and taciturnity. Traditional culture values ​​action over idle chatter. Excessive emotionality in public is frowned upon. Respect for women and protection. A woman (especially a mother, wife, or sister) is an object of veneration. A man takes on the role of protector. Devotion to family. Family is the highest value. The well-being of the family is placed above personal interests. A man feels responsible not only for his wife and children, but also for his parents, brothers, and sisters. Restraint in expressing emotions. In traditional culture, it is not customary to display one's emotions in public.

Anthropologically, many Ossetians belong to the central cluster of the Caucasian type of the European race. The following traits are often noted:

Hospitality. It was an important social institution. The host assumed the obligation to provide the guest with shelter, food, patronage, and protection. Strict reception rituals existed: for example, the honored guest was seated next to the elders, while the younger guests were expected to stand apart and answer only questions. There was also a special custom—the offering of an honorary glass (noisana).

Conversation rules. Hasty and loud speech were frowned upon. Arguments were not allowed in public places. Conversation was conducted smoothly, without abrupt turns or rudeness. It was considered extremely impolite to speak before listening to the other person fully, or to interrupt someone else's conversation.

Respect for elders. This is one of the key principles. A younger person usually greets an older person first, but does not extend a hand—the older person decides how to greet them. In the presence of elders, it is not customary to sit with one's legs crossed, raise one's voice, swear, smoke, or keep one's hands in one's pockets. An older person is listened to silently, without interrupting.
