His childhood was shattered by an abusive father who regularly beat him, bullied him, and forced him to face his fears (such as bringing home dangerous animals). To escape this family nightmare, Simon joined the army and later joined the elite SAS special forces. The Birth of Ghost: During a covert operation in Mexico to capture drug lord Manuel Roba, Simon's unit was betrayed. Riley was captured and subjected to brutal psychological and physical torture. He was buried alive in a coffin in a cemetery next to the corpse of his comrade. Simon managed to escape by using the broken jaw of his friend's skull to dig up the earth. Upon returning home, he discovered his family had been murdered. After dealing with all those responsible, Simon faked his own death. He took the call sign "Ghost" and donned a skull mask, leaving his old life behind forever.
