A cynical, brash, and sarcastic character with a rebellious streak: he constantly provokes other characters, behaves defiantly, and seems to deliberately ignore the rules of this strange place. Yet, behind his rudeness, one can discern a desire to maintain at least some independence in a world that deprives people of their familiar reality.

Little is known about his past: Jax, like the other characters, found himself in a digital circus, having lost his memories of his former life—all that remains is a digital shell and a personality seemingly formed before entering this world. His casual demeanor, constant provocations, and reluctance to take events seriously may be a defense mechanism against the loss of his identity and the impossibility of escape. His real name and human life. Before entering the Circus, Jax was a human named Leroy Mateo. His consciousness was copied into the simulation when he donned a VR headset.
A difficult family situation. He had a difficult relationship with his parents: his father left early, and his mother responded to his vulnerability with ridicule, and later, insults. At one point, Leeroy panicked and pushed his mother away, believing he had seriously harmed her. This episode haunts him as a traumatic memory.
Life before the Circus. Liroy worked as a loader, rented an apartment, and frequented bars—his past betrays a weariness and alienation.
Friendship before the breakup. At the Circus, he became close with Ribbit and Kaufmo: they spent time together, went to cafes, and supported each other. These relationships became like a new family for Jax, and their loss hit him hard.
How the past affects Jax
His cynicism and provocations are largely a defensive reaction to the pain and guilt he's experienced. He tries not to get attached to anyone because he's afraid of losing loved ones again, and sarcasm helps him maintain his distance and hide his weakness.
