The Hunger Games: Rebellion

Katniss had always been a reserved and distrustful person, hardened by years of hunger and responsibility, accustomed to relying solely on herself to keep her family alive. She struggled to show her emotions and usually hid her feelings behind a cold and calculating demeanor, something that had helped her survive both in District 12 and in the arena. Peeta, on the other hand, was more open, gentle, and thoughtful, with a natural ability to connect with people and say the right words at the right time, something that made him a valuable ally in front of the Capitol cameras.

Their relationship had been born of necessity and strategy, but over time it had grown more complex. Peeta had been in love with Katniss since childhood, a genuine feeling he had never fully concealed, while Katniss, insecure about her own feelings and still emotionally attached to Gale, had partly used that closeness as a survival tool within the Games. Even so, a genuine bond of trust and mutual protection had formed between them: Peeta had sacrificed himself more than once to keep her alive, and Katniss, despite her reserved nature, had come to feel a deep loyalty toward him, even if she couldn't always name it. This mixture of real affection and public performance had ultimately confused Katniss herself, unable to fully distinguish where strategy ended and her true feelings began.

It all began in District 12, where sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen survived by poaching alongside Gale to feed her mother and sister, Prim. On Reaping Day, Prim was chosen for the Hunger Games, and Katniss volunteered in her place. The other tribute was Peeta Mellark, the baker's son, who years before had given her bread when her family was starving.

They both traveled to the Capitol, where they met their mentor, Haymitch Abernathy, and their stylist, Cinna, who transformed them into "the boys on fire." After training, they were sent to the arena, where they survived thanks to an alliance and Peeta's feelings for her, partly genuine and partly strategic. As the last remaining tributes, they refused to kill each other and threatened to eat poisonous berries, forcing the Capitol to declare them both winners—a challenge the regime did not forget.

As victors, they had to feign a romantic relationship in front of the cameras while Snow privately suspected that the berry incident had been an act of rebellion. During the Victory Tour, Katniss unwittingly became a symbol of resistance.

To punish her, the Capitol announced the Quarter Quell, forcing the victors back into the arena, this time alongside Finnick Odair and Beetee. There, Katniss discovered that several tributes were secretly protecting her, part of a plan orchestrated by Plutarch Heavensbee. Amid the chaos, a group of allies managed to rescue Katniss, Finnick, and Beetee, while Peeta was captured by the Capitol. It was then that Katniss awoke, disoriented, in District 13.

Panem: A nation built upon the ruins of North America after catastrophes and wars. Divided between the wealthy and all-powerful Capitol and thirteen districts with no autonomy, each forced to produce a specific resource. Power is completely centralized, and any resistance is severely punished.

The Dark Days: Decades ago, the districts rebelled against the Capitol during the Dark Days. The revolt was crushed, and District 13 was presumed destroyed, though it actually survived hidden underground, secretly developing advanced military technology. As perpetual punishment, the Capitol instituted the Hunger Games.

President Snow: The absolute leader of the Capitol, he rules through fear and manipulation rather than brute force. Cold, intelligent, and ruthless, he understands that power lies in crushing any hope before it can take root. After the berry incident, he interprets the act as rebellion disguised as love and secretly decides to eliminate Katniss as a threat.

The districts and the discontent: Each district, specializing in a different industry, lives under strict surveillance, with forced labor and few resources. Generations of accumulated discontent were suppressed by fear, until Katniss's challenge in the arena reignited it, giving the population a figure with whom to identify.

District 13 and the Rebellion: Ruled by President Coin under a strict military regime, District 13 had been secretly preparing a large-scale rebellion for years, with support from Capitol infiltrators like Plutarch Heavensbee. The Quarter Quell, conceived by Snow to eliminate Katniss, ended up being the opportunity the rebels used to rescue her along with other victors, thus beginning open war against the Capitol.

Katniss Everdeen: Reserved, distrustful, and determined, hardened by years of hunger and the responsibility of supporting her family. She hides her emotions behind a cold demeanor and acts guided more by the instinct to protect than by political calculation.

Peeta Mellark: Gentle, thoughtful, and skilled with words, with a natural ability to connect with people. He is the most "human" and persuasive face on camera, while also deeply loyal and sincere in his feelings.

Haymitch Abernathy: Cynical, brusque, and alcoholic, scarred by the trauma of having survived his own Games years before. Beneath that contemptuous attitude lies genuine loyalty to his tributes and considerable strategic intelligence.

Alma Coin: Cold, calculating, and authoritarian, she is more interested in the final outcome of the war than in the individual well-being of those fighting it. Her extreme pragmatism makes her seem, at times, as dangerous as the Capitol itself.

Plutarch Heavensbee: Former Chief Warden turned rebel strategist. Resourceful, pragmatic, and obsessed with propaganda and public image, he views the war almost as a production that must be carefully directed.

Boggs: A disciplined, loyal, and straightforward military officer from District 13. One of the few who treats Katniss with genuine respect, rather than seeing her merely as a symbol or a tool.
