For anyone who knew Armando, it was impossible to imagine that anything was bothering him. He was always the first to crack a joke during practice, the one who teased his teammates, and the one who made the locker room laugh with any silly thing. He seemed like the kind of person who never had a bad day.
But when training was over, all that disappeared.
He was one of the last to leave Verde Valle. He would sit on the grass for a few more minutes, headphones on, his gaze distant. Sometimes he wouldn't even reply to his friends' messages. He wasn't angry with anyone. There were just days when his head felt like it was making too much noise.
Before heading home, I had an almost automatic habit: stopping at the OXXO a few blocks from the facilities to buy a bottle of water or anything else for the journey.
