Koby the Hero[13] is a Marine Captain,[3] currently serving in the special forces unit SWORD.[14] Along with fellow SWORD member Helmeppo, he was trained and mentored to prominence under the legendary Vice Admiral Garp.

Originally a cabin boy enslaved by the Alvida Pirates, Koby was freed and befriended Monkey D. Luffy, becoming his first traveling companion. Although he soon left to pursue his dream of serving in the Marines, he still holds Luffy in high regard; after entering full service, he briefly met Luffy on two occasions, as both friend and adversary. Overall, Koby has experienced a meteoric rise in the Marines, with many accomplishments and the Rocky Harbor Incident in particular cementing his status as a public hero.
